PacWest SAAC Constitution
Article I.
A. Mission
The mission of the PacWest Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting involvement in community activities, protecting student-athlete welfare, maintaining athletic integrity, acting as a liaison between student-athletes and the administration and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
Article II.
A. Membership
- Each member institution shall have two representatives, one female and one male, that are of a different sport team, athletic class standing and playing season. There shall be two alternates per institution, with no limitations placed on alternates. Alternates will substitute for a representative that is in season. At least one institutional representative must be available for all PacWest Conference meetings.
- The PacWest representative to NCAA SAAC will be nominated from current members of the PacWest SAAC.
- Minimum qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Academic eligibility (consistent with NCAA standards)
- Attendance at all PacWest Conference SAAC meetings (minimum of one elected member or alternate from each institution)
- The representative will serve a one year term with no limit.
Article III.
A. Meetings
- The PacWest Conference SAAC shall hold at least two meetings during the year, with a minimum of one meeting in the Fall and one meeting in the Spring. The SAAC will meet in person once during the academic year. Subsequent meetings will be by video or conference call, with the specific dates and sites for annual meetings being determined by the previous year’s committee, in conjunction with the conference Commissioner, at the Spring meeting. In-person meetings will alternate between Hawai’i and the Mainland. The executive board has the right to add additional conference call or video conference meetings, if necessary, during the year, with approval by the Athletic Directors, if costs incurred.
- The Fall meetings shall be held in the final two weeks of September, the Spring meetings shall be held during the first two weeks of April.
- Chair shall allow an informal atmosphere under the Robert’s Rule of Order.
B. Voting
- Each institution has one vote.
- Two-thirds attendance shall equal a Quorum
Article IV.
A. Officer’s Duties
- Executive Board and Duties:
a. Chair
1. Presides over meetings
2. Serves as a liaison to the PacWest Conference office and the student-athletes
3. Functions as a spokesperson for the PacWest Conference and student-athletes to the Conference campuses and the community.
b. Vice Chair
1. Presides over meetings when Chair is absent
2. Oversees subcommittees that may be formed as a response to the needs of the student athlete.
3. Performs all duties which are required of the office by the committee.
c. Secretary
1. Responsible for keeping attendance records
2. Responsible for summary of the Minutes of the meetings.
3. Responsible for communicating all action’s in the meetings, plus Minutes, and other necessary records, to Commissioner and Athletic Directors.
d. Treasurer
1. Responsible for submitting budget request
2. Responsible for keeping written records of any money spent and/or taken in by the Pac West Conference SAAC.
B. Term
- All officers shall serve a term of one year.
- Minimum of one year SAAC experience at their current institution for the offices of Chair and Vice-Chair.
- The Chair and Vice Chair shall be eligible for reelection following a one year absence from the elected office.
- The Secretary and Treasurer shall be eligible for reelection for consecutive terms providing he/she meets PacWest SAAC eligibility.
C. Agenda
- Agenda will be determined by the Executive Board.
- The Executive Board will be elected at the Spring meeting each year.
- The Executive Board may be reorganized in the fall if the members so decide.
Article V.
A. Minimum Guidelines for Institutional SAACs
- Each institution should hold a minimum one meeting per month during the academic year.
- Each institution should have one representative per sport (recommend two).
- Each campus SAAC should have an administrative advisor, from its athletic department.
- At least one community service project/fundraiser.
- Each institution should set SAAC goals and guidelines.
- Communicate with other conference institution SAACs.
Article VI
A. Amendments

Amendments to this constitution must be introduced to the Executive Board for distribution one month prior to the next meeting. Voting shall occur at the meeting following introduction if a quorum is present. The amendment will take effect following approval of the PacWest SAAC, Executive Board.
