Tennis Players of the Week – February 25

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Tennis Players of the Week are Azusa Pacific’s Ben Eger and Academy of Art’s Jenny Johansson. The awards are based on games played Feb. 16-22.
 
Men’s Player of the Week – Ben Eger (Azusa Pacific)
Sr., Neustadt, Germany/Ceciliengymnasium Bielefeld
 
Eger was unbeaten at No. 2 singles in a three-win week for the No. 12 Cougars. The ninth-ranked singles player defeated Western New Mexico’s JeanLaurent Pageault, 6-3, 6-4; Holy Names’ Matthew Halligan, 6-1, 6-1; and Concordia’s Till Guttenberger, 6-2, 6-1. He was also unbeaten at No. 2 doubles with Pascal Engel.
 
Women’s Player of the Week – Jenny Johansson (Academy of Art)
Sr., Almhult, Sweden/Apelrydskolan Båstad
 
Johansson won both of her singles and doubles matches on the week for No. 14 Academy of Art, one of just two unbeaten teams remaining in the PacWest. She beat Sonoma State’s Hillary Fazekas and Cal State Stanislaus’ Ebone Qualls both in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-0. She teamed with Lucia Zavarcikova to win two doubles matches 8-0 and 8-2.
