Seeds Set For 2018 PacWest Basketball Tournament

IRVINE, Calif. -- The 2017-18 PacWest regular season finished with Dixie State taking the men's basketball title and Hawai`i Pacific and Azusa Pacific sharing the women's basketball title. The fields are now set for the six-team PacWest Tournament in Riverside on March 1-3.

Azusa Pacific is the tournament's top seed and will receive a first-round bye after going 18-2 in conference play this year, while Hawai`i Pacific is the No. 2 seed with the same record. Both teams will begin play on Friday in the PacWest semifinals.8459

California Baptist is the No. 3 seed in the tournament after wrapping up the regular season on a nine-game winning streak, which is tied for the longest active streak in the conference with Azusa Pacific. The Lancers will play against No. 6 Dominican, whose win against Holy Names a week ago proved to be enough to book a spot in the tournament. The winner of that game will play against No. 2 Hawai`i Pacific in the semifinals.

The other first-round encounter features No. 4 Concordia and No. 5 Point Loma. The Sea Lions made their way into the tournament on the final day of the regular season, beating Dixie State to book its spot. Concordia won six of its last seven games to secure its spot in the tournament. The winner will play against No. 1 Azusa Pacific on Friday.

Dixie State earned the PacWest Tournament's top seed by defeating Point Loma in the regular-season finale to win the PacWest regular season title. Host California Baptist is the No. 2 seed at the tournament after going 17-3 in conference play.8460

No. 3 Azusa Pacific will play No. 6 Chaminade for the third time in as many weeks. The Cougars won the first meeting at home before the Silverswords evened the season series in the regular-season finale to book its spot in the conference tournament. The Cougars took a four-game winning streak into the regular-season finale. The winner of the first-round game will play No. 2 California Baptist in the semifinals.

No. 4 Point Loma finished the regular season 15-5 and will face No. 5 Concordia, which finished the regular season with a 12-8 record in conference play. Both teams are looking to rebound after dropping their regular-season finales. Point Loma fell at home to No. 1 Dixie State, while Concordia took a loss on the road at Academy of Art. The winner of the matchup will play against Dixie State. It could be the second contest between Point Loma and Dixie State in the span of a week.
