Grand Canyon sweeps latest PacWest Player, Pitcher of the Week awards

P.J. Garcia PHOENIX, AZ – Grand Canyon junior 2B/SS P.J. Garcia and sophomore hurler Cody Repenning have been named the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

The PacWest announced the awards on Monday, March 14, from its office in Phoenix, AZ, for games contested March 7-13.

Garcia and Repenning were instrumental in the Antelopes four-game weekend sweep of Academy of Art on March 11-12.

(March 14, 2011) - Player of the Week (March 7-13)...P.J. Garcia - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-11, 180, 2B/SS, L/R, Phoenix, AZ/Thunderbird)...led the Antelopes to a 4-0 weekend sweep of Academy of Art...hit .500 in four starts, going 6 for 12 at the plate with five runs scored and six RBI...ripped four doubles and a triple...reached base four times on walks and once after being hit by a pitch...had a 1.000 slugging rate and a .647 on-base mark.Cody Repenning

(March 14, 2011) - Pitcher of the Week (March 7-13)...Cody Repenning - Grand Canyon (So., 6-6, 195, P, R/R, Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert)...posted a win and a save to figure in two of GCU’s four victories over Art U during the weekend...finished off a 7-5 victory on March 11 by getting three outs on the first three batters faced in the seventh...Art U had scored three runs in the inning and was threatening...on March 12 tossed a seven-inning, complete-game victory in 6-4 win over Art U by striking out five and scattering seven hits...permitted one earned run and no walks.

Troy Ajer - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-10, 175, OF, L/L, Sagus, CA/Sagus)...hit .625 in doubleheader split with Dixie State on March 13 - lone games of the week for the Sea Warriors...was 5 for 8 with five runs scored, one double and a home run...walked twice...had a .750 slugging mark and a .700 on-base rate.

Zach Babitt Zach Babitt - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-8, 165, IF, L/R, Richmond, CA/Albany)...batted .500 in four starts for the Urban Knights despite an 0-4 weekend series at Grand Canyon...went 8 for 16 with six runs scored, two doubles and seven RBI...also walked once...had a .625 slugging rate and .529 on-base mark.

Tyler Bair - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-0, 195, OF, R/R, Scottsdale, AZ/Coronado)...hit .467 in four starts to help Antelopes to a 4-0 weekend sweep of Academy of Art...went 7 for 15 at the plate with six runs scored...doubled once and stole two bases...had a .533 slugging rate and a .467 on-base mark.

Joey Bristyan - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-9, 165, OF, L/L, Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon)...hit .500 in four starts during a 4-0 sweep of Academy of Art...was 8 for 16 at the plate with four runs, two doubles and five RBI...walked twice, was hit by a pitch, and converted all three stolen base attempts...had a .625 slugging rate and a .579 on-base mark.

Joe Jacobsen - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-0, 200, 1B/DH, R/R, Scottsdale, AZ/Coronado)...batted .583 in a 4-0 weekend sweep of Academy of Art...was 7 for 12 at the plate in four starts...scored seven runs and produced two RBI...walked three times...had a .583 slugging rate and a .667 on-base mark.

Tyson Littlewood - Dixie State (Jr., 6-0, 190, IF, R/R, St. George, UT/Pine View)...hit .833 in a doubleheader split with HPU on March 13 - lone games of the week for the Red Storm...was 5 for 6 with three runs, two doubles and a homer...walked twice and had an .875 on-base mark...produced a 1.667% slugging rate.

Tyson Littlewood Jackie Samora - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-9, 175, 2B/3B, R/R, Glendale, AZ/Apollo)...hit .444 in four starts during a 4-0 weekend for GCU...Antelopes took all four games from conference foe Art U...made the most of every plate appearance...went 4 for 9 with six runs scored, nine RBI, one double, five walks and a sacrifice fly...also was hit by a pitch...recorded a .556 slugging rate and a .625 on-base mark...led the PacWest in runs batted in for the week.

Kale Sumner - Hawai‘i Pacific (So., 5-11, 210, IF, R/R, Kailua, HI/Kailua)...had a perfect afternoon in doubleheader split with Dixie State on March 13...went 4 for 4 with three doubles and five RBI...produced a 1.750 slugging rate and five walks...had a perfect on-base mark (1.000%)...also stole a base.

Brady Wager - Grand Canyon (So., 6-2, 205, R/R, Globe, AZ/Globe)...stifled Art U 7-1 on March 11 by tossing 8.1 innings of action to earn the win...struck out 10, allowed just four hits and gave up one earned run...posted a 1.08 ERA and allowed a .138 batting average.

Coltin White - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-2, 165, P, R/R, Mesa, AZ/Mesa Mountain View)...earned a 7-5 victory over Academy of Art on March 11 in game two of a twinbill...allowed one earned run on seven hits while striking out two over 6.0 innings of work...posted a 1.50 ERA in the win.
