Sea Warriors sweep weekly honors thanks to Amaral, Greene
HPU sweeps weekly baseball awards
PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific sophomore infielder Blake Amaral (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha Schools) and junior pitcher Michael Greene (Longview, WA/Lebanon) have been named the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Feb. 15, for games contested Feb. 8-14.
Amaral led the Sea Warriors to a 4-0 weekend in a conference sweep of rival Hawai‘i Hilo by hitting .462.
He went 6 for 13 with three runs scored, five RBI, a double, a
triple and a home run.
He also posted a .923 slugging rate and a .563 on-base mark after finishing up with a dozen total bases.
Greene tossed a complete-game victory in the 2010 opener for the Sea Warriors - an 8-1 PacWest win over Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 13.
He scattered nine hits and allowed one unearned run while striking out six in the contest.

Sergio Contreras - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 6-3, 225, P, R/R,
San Francisco, CA/South San Francisco)...posted a
pair of saves over the weekend as HPU swept Hawai‘i Hilo in a
four-game PacWest series...allowed just one hit in two innings of
work with two strikeouts and four walks...opponents could only
muster a .143 batting average.
Tyler Davis - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-11, 170, OF, R/R, Central Point, OR/Crater)...hit .353 in four starts for the Sea Warriors...helped HPU to a 4-0 start in conference play...was 6 for 17 with four runs scored, a triple, a walk and two stolen bases...had a .471 slugging rate.
Toby Inouye - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-11, 180, P, R/R, Honolulu, HI/Kaiser)...tossed a complete-game, seven-inning victory in game one of a PacWest twinbill vs. Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 14...allowed just three hits while striking out six...permitted a pair of earned runs in the 4-2 Sea Warrior win.
Arlie Johnson - Hawai‘i Hilo (Fr., 5-10, 175,
OF, R/R, Waipahu, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama)...despite a
1-5 week for the Vulcans, posted a .429 batting average in three
games - including two starts...was 3 for 7 with two runs scored,
four RBI, a double,
a home run, a sacrifice fly and a 1.000 slugging mark.
Shane Kessel - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 6-2, 205, IF, R/R, Olympia, WA/North Thurston)...batted .350 with three RBI and three runs scored for Vulcans despite a 1-5 week...started all six games...was 7 for 20 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and three walks...boasted a .700 slugging rate and a .435 on-base mark.
Bas Nooij - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-0, 200, C, R/R, Landsmeer, New Foundland, Canada/Caland Lyceum)...helped Sea Warriors to a 4-0 PacWest sweep of Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 13-14...HPU now 4-0 in the PacWest...hit .444 in three games...went 4 for 9 with one run, one RBI and a .444 slugging rate...also had a .444 on-base mark.
John Stanko - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-1, 210, OF, R/R, Mesa, AZ/Desert Ridge)...batted .333 in four games for the Antelopes...GCU lost all four vs. UC San Diego...was 4 for 12 with two runs scored, one double, one home run, one RBI and two walks...had a .667 slugging mark and a .420 on-base percentage.
Kale Sumner - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., 5-11, 190,
IF, R/R, Kailua, HI/Kailua)...instrumental i

for 14 with five runs scored, a solo home run, one RBI, two walks
and a .643 slugging rate...also posted a .500 on-base mark.
Kenny Turner - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 5-11, 180, IF, R/R, San Carlos, CA/Junipero Serra)...led the PacWest in hitting for the week...put together a .571 batting average in a 4-0 weekend sweep of Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 13-14...Sea Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 record in the conference...went 8 for 14 with four runs scored, a double, three RBI, a stolen base and a .643 slugging percentage...also had a .571 on-base rate.
Sean Winston - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 5-9, 175, IF, R/R, Richland, WA/Richland)...helped HPU to a 4-0 sweep of Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 13-14 in PacWest series opener...hit .385 in four starts with a .462 slugging mark and a .429 on-base rate...went 5 for 13 with a run scored, one double and three RBI...dropped a pair of sacrifice bunts and reached base after being hit by a pitch.
