PHOENIX, AZ - Grand Canyon sophomore SS P.J. Garcia (Phoenix, AZ/Thunderbird) and Hawai‘i Hilo junior thrower Ronnie Loeffler (Hilo, HI/Waiakea) have been named the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Feb. 8, for games contested Feb. 1-7.
Garcia batted .667 in a four-game series vs. Regis (CO) by
goin
g 8 for 12 with eight runs scored, two doubles and nine RBI.
He had an .833 slugging percentage and a .778 on-base rate while walking six times.
Loeffler was the first PacWest pitcher to earn a victory in 2010 when he beat Northwest Nazarene (ID) 2-1 on Feb. 4.
In that victory, Loeffler posted a 1.35 earned run average through 6.2 innings of work. He struck out four, walked one, allowed one earned run and scattered five hits.

UT/Alta)...led the Red Storm to a doubleheader sweep
of Mesa (CO) State on Feb. 5...hit .750 by going 3 for 4 with three
runs scored, two RBI and three walks...hit a sacrifice
fly...produced a .750 on-base rate and slugging percentage.
Tyler Bair - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-0, 195, OF, R/R, Scottsdale, AZ/Coronado)...hit .467 in four-game series vs. Regis (CO)...Antelopes posted a 3-1 mark during the weekend series...started all four contests...was 7 for 15 with six runs, three doubles, seven RBI and two walks...posted a .667 slugging rate and a .529 on-base mark.
Joey Bristyan - Grand Canyon (So., 5-8, 150, CF, L/L, Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon)...hit .429 in four-game series vs. Regis (CO)...Antelopes recorded a 3-1 mark during the series...started all four contests...was 6 for 14 with nine runs scored, two doubles, four RBI and six walks...also was 2 for 2 in stolen base attempts and reached base twice after being hit by a pitch...had a .571 slugging rate and a .636 on-base mark.
Kevin Burbank - Grand Canyon (So., 6-4, 235, P, L/L, Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley)...tossed five solid innings in garnering 15-3 victory over Regis (CO) on Feb. 7...scattered five hits, struck out two batters and allowed just one earned run...produced a 1.80 ERA in lone contest of the week.
Jeff Hanna - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-10, 175, IF, L/R, Renton, WA/Liberty)...helped the Vulcans to a 2-2 start to the season in the first four contests of a six-game series vs. Northwest Nazarene (ID)...hit .444 in four starts by going 4 for 9 with three runs scored, one RBI and a .444 slugging rate...posted a .667 on-base mark that was boosted by six walks...had two sacrifice bunts and was 2 for 2 in stolen base attempts.
Joey Jacobson - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-0, 200, 1B, R/R, Scottsdale,
AZ/Coronado)...batted .583 in four-game series vs.
Regis (CO)...started three of the four contests...was 7 for 12 with
two runs, two doubles, five RBI and two walks...posted a .750
slugging mark and a .643 on-base rate...Grand Canyon boasted a 3-1
record in the series.
Tony Nelson - Dixie State (Jr., 6-1, 180, IF, L/R, St. George, UT/Dixie)...helped the Red Storm to a doubleheader sweep of Mesa (CO) State on Feb. 5...hit .429 by going 3 for 7 with three runs scored, three RBI and a home run...walked once...posted an .857 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base rate.
Drew Oldfield - Dixie State (Sr., 6-0, 180, C, S/R, Aurora, CO/Rangeview)...helped guide the Red Storm to a doubleheader sweep of Mesa (CO) State on Feb. 5...hit .375 in the twinbill by going 3 for 8 with two runs scored and three RBI...blasted a pair of home runs...posted a 1.125 slugging percentage and a .375 on-base rate.
Ronel Trias - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-6, 160, OF, L/R,
Mililani, HI/University)...pushed the Vulcans to a
2-2 record in four starts...four contests were part of a six-game
series vs. Northwest Nazarene (ID)...hit .400 after going 6 for 15
with five runs scored, a double, two RBI, three walks, a .467
slugging percentage and a .500 on-base rate...also stole a
base.
Colton Yack - Dixie State (Fr., 5-11, 175, INF, L/R, South Jordan, UT/Bingham)...rookie infielder made his debut by hitting .600 in doubleheader sweep of Mesa (CO) State on Feb. 5...was 3 for 5 with three runs scored, two RBI and a walk...also stole a base...had a .600 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base rate.
