CBU IF Kevin Odom, GCU hurler Mark Jarrett earn first PacWest weekly awards of 2012

Union) and Grand Canyon junior hurler
Mark Jarrett (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain)
earned the first Pacific West Conference weekly baseball awards of
2012.
The PacWest announced the honors on Feb. 12 for games contested during the opening week of the season - Feb. 1-5.
Player of the Week (Feb. 1-5)...Kevin Odom - California Baptist (Sr., 5-11, 210, IF, R/R, Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union)...led the Lancers to a 2-2 start on the season by hitting .500 in four starts...went 6 for 12 with two runs scored, two doubles, a triple and three RBI...walked five times and reached once after being hit by a pitch...had an .833 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base rate.
Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 1-5)...Mark Jarrett - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-11, 175, P, R/R, Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain)...earned two saves in three appearances while posting a 0.00 ERA...allowed one hit over four innings with two strikeouts...permitted a 0.83 batting average.
PacWest Baseball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
Jon Bengard - California Baptist (Jr., 6-3, 180, P, R/R, Moreno Valley, CA/Canyon Springs)...earned 7-2 win vs. Cal State L.A. on Feb. 3...tossed 5.0 innings of three-hit ball while allowing no runs...struck out five in the win.
Matt Daugherty - California Baptist (Jr., 6-2, 200, U, R/R, Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley)...led the Lancers to a 2-2 start on the season by hitting .471 in four starts...went 8 for 17 with three runs scored, two doubles and two RBI...stole a base and reached once after getting hit...had a .588 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base average.
Tagg Duce - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-10, 165, IF, R/R, Sierra Vista, AZ/Buena)...led Antelopes to 2-2 week to start the season...hit .600 in four games and three starts...went 6 for 10 with two runs, a double and two RBI...posted a .700 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base mark...had three sacrifice bunts.
Zach Esquerra - California Baptist (So., 6-4, 210, OF, R/R, La Habra, CA/La Habra)...led the PacWest in RBI production for the week with five...hit .353 in four starts during a 2-2 week for the Lancers...went 6 for 17 with three runs, three doubles and one homer...walked once and was hit once...also stole a base and produced a .706 slugging percentage...had a .421 on-base mark.
David Herd - California Baptist (Fr., 5-9, 160, P, R/R, Menifee, CA/Paloma Valley)...teamed up with Erik Wallace for a combined shutout in 11-0 win at Cal State Los Angeles on Feb. 4...credited with the save...struck out two, scattered four hits and walked just one hitter in 4.0 innings of work.
Matt Johnson - California Baptist (Sr., 6-0, 190, OF, R/R,
Riverside, CA/JW North)...hit .364 in four games and
two starts for the Lancers...went 4 for 11 with five runs scored,
on RBI, one double and one walk...was hit by three pitches and went
2 for 2 in stolen base attempts...posted a .455 slugging rate and a
.533 on-base mark.
Derek Mendoza - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-2, 205, IF/OF, R/R, Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain)...helped Antelopes to 2-2 week by batting .417 in three starts...went 5 for 12 with one run, three doubles and one homer...posted a .667 slugging percentage and a .462 on-base mark...walked once.
Michael Pomeroy - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-1, 190, 1B/OF, L/L, Peoria, AZ/Centennial)...led Antelopes to a 2-2 start...hit .563 in four starts, going 9 for 16 with two runs scored, one double and two RBI...posted a .625 slugging percentage and a .611 on-base rate...went 2 for 2 in stolen base attempts...reached base twice after getting hit by a pitch...ranked second in the PacWest in hitting for the week.
Jackie Samora - Grand Canyon (So., 5-9, 175, 2B/3B, R/R, Glendale, AZ/Apollo)...went 3 for 6 in three games and two starts...hit .500 with a double and four RBI...posted a .500 on-base mark and a .667 slugging rate.
Erik Wallace - California Baptist (Sr., 6-0, 245, P, R/R, Moreno Valley, CA/Vista del Lago)...teamed up with David Herd for a combined shutout in 11-0 win at Cal State Los Angeles on Feb. 4...credited with the victory...struck out seven, scattered four hits and walked just one hitter in 5.0 innings of work.
