Grand Canyon's Ernesto Ortiz, Brady Wager named PacWest Player, Pitcher of the Week
PHOENIX, AZ – Grand Canyon junior SS
Ernesto Ortiz and GCU sophomore
hurler Brady Wager have been named
the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week,
respectively.
The PacWest announced the awards on Wednesday, Feb. 9, for games contested Feb. 1-6 from its office in Phoenix, AZ.
Player of the Week (Feb. 1-6)...Ernesto Ortiz - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-10, 165, SS, R/R, Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral)...led Antelopes to a 2-1 week by hitting .556 in three starts...went 5 for 9 with three runs scored, one double and two RBI...walked once and was hit by a pitch...went 2 for 2 in stolen base attempts...posted a .583 on-base mark and a .667 slugging percentage.
Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 1-6)...Brady Wager
- Grand Canyon (So., 6-2, 205, R/R, Globe,
AZ/Globe)...struck out six, permitted no earned runs
and allowed just three hits in 6-1 victory over Arizona Christian
on Feb. 2...permitted a .150 batting average.
PacWest Baseball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
William Armijo - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-0, 200, P, L/L, Phoenix, AZ/Paradise Valley)...saw action in two games for the Antelopes, posting a 1-0 record...win came in relief on Feb. 3 vs. Arizona Christian...struck out three and allowed one hit...opponents mustered a .143 batting average during the week.
Colin Courtland - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-3, 230, P/DH, R/R, Litchfield Park, AZ/Millennium)...hit .400 in three starts...went 4 for 10 with two runs, three RBI, two walks and a sacrifice fly...had a .600 slugging rate and a .462 on-base mark.
Jared DePatto - Academy of Art (Jr., 6-1, 190, IF/OF, R/R,
Marshfield, MA/Marshfield)...hit .333 with a .333
slugging percentage...registered a .500 on-base average...went 2
for 6 with a run, walk and HBP.
R.J. Etchebarren - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-1, 195, OF, R/R, Phoenix, AZ/Paradise Valley)...batted .500 in two starts...went 4 for 8 with a run scored, two RBI and two stolen bases...recorded a .500 on-base percentage.
P.J. Garcia - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-11, 180, 2B/SS, L/R, Phoenix, AZ/Thunderbird)...hit .273 in three starts...went 3 for 11 with three RBI, three walks, one HBP, a double and a stolen base.
Stefen Henderson - Academy of Art (So., 6-1, 190, IF, R/R, Vallejo, CA/Hogan)...led the PacWest in hitting for the week with a .571 average...went 4 for 7 with a triple, four runs batted in and an .857 slugging rate...posted a .500 on-base mark.
Cody Repenning - Grand Canyon (So., 6-6, 195, P, R/R, Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert)...posted a 0.00 ERA in two relief appearances during the week...struck out three, allowed no earned runs...scattered six hits over 6.0 innings of work...opponents hit .250.
Kenny Rollins - Academy of Art (Jr., 6-0, 210, IF/OF, R/R, Ayer,
MA/Ayer)...hit .400 with a .400 slugging percentage
and a .571 on-base average...went 2 for 5 with a run, RBI, two
walks and a stolen base.
Jackie Samora - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-9, 175, 2B/3B, R/R, Glendale, AZ/Apollo)...hit.364 in three starts during a 2-1 week for GCU...went 4 for 11 with three runs scored, one double and one RBI...walked once and stole a base...recorded a .455 slugging rate and a .417 on-base mark.
David Wydeven - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-3, 210, P, R/R, London, Ontario, Canada)...pitched 7.0 strong innings during a no-decision on Feb. 3 in GCU’s 3-2 win over Arizona Christian...posted a .257 ERA in the start...allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts...walked just two and permitted a .182 batting average.
