Dixie St. sophomores Jordan Hanley, Mike Dedrick named PacWest Player, Pitcher of the Week

PHOENIX, AZ – Dixie State sophomores Jordan Hanley and Mike Dedrick have been named the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

The PacWest announced the awards on Feb. 28 from its office in Phoenix, AZ, for games contested Feb. 21-27.

(Feb. 28, 2011) - Player of the Week (Feb. 21-27)...Jordan Hanley - Dixie State (So., 5-10, 175, OF, R/R, Las Vegas, NV/Bonanza)...led the Red Storm to a 2-1 weekend at Academy of Art to begin Pacific West Conference action...hit .556 in three starts...went 5 for 9 with four runs scored, two doubles and three RBI...walked six times and was 2 for 2 in stolen base attempts...had a .778 slugging rate and a .733 on-base percentage.

 (Feb. 28, 2011) - Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 21-27)...Mike Dedrick - Dixie State (So., 6-3, 200, P, R/R, Cedar City, UT/Canyon View)...struck out 15, allowed just four base hits and gave up one earned run over 8.0 innings to earn victory vs. Art U on Feb. 26...Red Storm claimed 9-2 win...walked just three batters and permitted a .148 batting average...posted a 1.12 ERA.

Troy Ajer - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-10, 175, OF, L/L, Sagus, CA/Sagus)...hit .467 in six-game series vs. Northwest Nazarene...was 7 for 15 with two runs scored, two triples, five RBI and three walks...had a .733 slugging mark and a .556 on-base rate.

Lester Akeo - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 5-9, 185, IF, S/R, Kapolei, HI/Kamehameha Schools)...hit .350 (7 for 20) in six-game series vs. Northwest Nazarene...started all six contests...scored four runs, drove in two and smacked one double...walked eight times...stole a base...had a .400 slugging rate and a .536 on-base mark.

Blake Amaral - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 6-1, 190, IF, R/R, Hilo, HI/Kamehameha Schools)...hit .385 in six starts vs. Northwest Nazarene during the week...went 10 for 26 with five runs scored, two doubles, one home run and five RBI...walked twice...had a .577 slugging rate and a .429 on-base mark.

Eric Bond - Dixie State (Jr., 6-1, 185, OF, L/R, Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon)...hit .500 in two starts vs. Art U on Feb. 25-26...was 4 for 8 with three runs, two doubles, one homer, four RBI, two walks and a stolen base...had a 1.125 slugging rate and a .600 on-base mark.

Kyle DiMartino - Dixie State (Jr., 6-0, 200, R/R, Las Vegas, NV/Durango)...earned a save on Feb. 25 in 13-7 win over Dixie State...tossed 4.0 solid innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven...walked three.

Sam Friend - Dixie State (Jr., 5-11, 180, OF/P, L/L, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial)...hit .364 in three starts during a 2-1 weekend for the Red Storm...went 4 for 11 with two runs scored, a double, a triple, four RBI, a walk and one HBP...had a .636 slugging mark and a .462 on-base average.

Taylor Hill - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-9, 175, P, R/R, Sherwood, OR/Sherwood)...tossed 4.1 innings in three appearances without giving up an earned run...struck out five and issued no walks...scattered six hits...posted a 0.00 ERA for the week.

Toby Inouye - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 5-11, 180, P, R/R, Honolulu, HI/Kaiser)...pitched 7.0 solid innings in lone start of the week...earned 8-6 victory over Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 23...scattered nine hits, allowed three earned runs, and struck out four.

Niko Leite - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-8, 150, OF, R/R, Rodeo, CA/Salesian)...hit .375 in three starts vs. Dixie State  Feb. 25-26...was 3 for 8 with two runs, a double and two walks...had a .500 on-base mark and a .500 slugging percentage.

Zach Mexicano - Academy of Art (Jr., 6-0, 175, P, R/L, Scotts Valley, CA/Scotts Valley)...picked up a complete-game victory over Dixie State on Feb. 25...tossed 7.0 innings, allowing no earned runs, six hits and three walks...struck out six...posted a 0.00 ERA in the contest...yielded a .231 batting average...Urban Knights won the game 6-5.
