Grand Canyon's Tyler Bair and Colin Courtland sweep latest PacWest weekly baseball awards
PHOENIX, AZ – Grand Canyon senior OF Tyler
Bair and senior hurler Colin Courtland
have been named the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of
the Week, respectively.
The PacWest announced the awards on Monday, March 28, from its office in Phoenix, AZ, for games contested March 21-27.
(March 28, 2011) - Player of the Week (March 21-27)...Tyler Bair - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-0, 195, OF, R/R, Scottsdale, AZ/Coronado)...led the Antelopes to a five-game sweep of Hawai‘i Hilo March 25-27...hit .524 in five starts, going 11 for 21 with seven runs scored and seven runs batted in...ripped a double, triple and a home run...walked once and stole a base...had an .810 slugging rate and a .545 on-base mark...earned the honor for second time this season.

hits...allowed just one earned run...helped Antelopes to a 5-0
weekend sweep of the Vulcans by also contributing on offense...hit
.429 in four starts as a DH, going 3 for 7 with three runs, two
doubles and four RBI...had a .714 slugging mark and a .636 on-base
rate.

Eric Bond - Dixie State (Jr., 6-1, 185, OF, L/R, Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon)...led the Red Storm to a 3-0 week by hitting .667 in three starts...went 4 for 6 with three runs scored, three doubles, three RBI and a home run...stole a base and walked three times...posted a 1.667 slugging percentage and a .778 on-base mark.
Joey Bristyan - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-9, 165, OF, L/L, Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon)...hit .429 in five starts during a 5-0 weekend sweep of Hawai‘i Hilo March 25-27...went 9 for 21 with eight runs scored, one double and two RBI...walked twice, stole a base and had a .476 slugging percentage...also posted a .478 on-base mark.
Sergio Contreras - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-3, 225, P, R/R,
San Francisco, CA/South City)...earned a 9-0 victory
over Academy of Art on March 22...tossed 6.0 of the 7.0 innings
played...allowed just one hit and three walks while striking out
four...permitted a .053 batting average.
Kalab Evans - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-8, 185, C, R/R, Creston, IA/Creston)...hit .421 in five starts during a 5-0 sweep of Hawai‘i Hilo March 25-27...doubled three times, tripled once and drove in six runs...walked twice and hit a sacrifice fly...boasted a .684 slugging percentage and a .455 on-base mark.
P.J. Garcia - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-11, 180, 2B/SS, L/R, Phoenix, AZ/Thunderbird)...led the Antelopes to a 5-0 sweep of Hawai‘i Hilo March 25-27 by hitting .529 in five starts...recorded a .647 slugging rate and a .600 on-base mark...walked three times and stole a base...went 9 for 17 with six runs scored, two doubles and six RBI.
Nick Giotta - Academy of Art (Fr., 5-11, 165, P, R/R, San Jose, CA/Leland)...allowed no earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts in helping the Urban Knights to a 2-1 victory over Hawai‘i Pacific on March 21...earned the win after going 7.2 innings on the mound...opponents hit .192 with no extra-base hits in the contest...posted a 0.00 ERA in the game.
Keoni Manago - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-9, 180, OF, R/R, Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt)...hit .591 with a .773 slugging percentage and a .609 on-base mark for the Vulcans over six starts...UHH struggled with a 0-8 week...went 13 for 22 with three runs, four doubles, four RBI and a walk.

sweep of Hawai‘i Hilo March 25-27...hit .385 in four
starts...was 5 for 13 with seven runs scored and 10 RBI...bashed a
triple...ripped a grand slam in 6-1 victory during series finale on
March 27...had a .769 slugging rate and a .500 on-base
mark...walked once and reached base after being hit twice...also
stole a base.
Brent Queen - Hawai‘i Pacific (So., 6-2, 195, P, R/R, Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson)...tossed 6.0 of 7.0 innings in a 10-1 victory over Academy of Art on March 22...scattered four hits and allowed one earned run...walked three and struck out seven...posted 1.50 ERA.
Ammon Zitting - Dixie State (Jr., 6-0, 165, IF, R/R, Pleasant Grove, UT/Lone Peak)...helped the Red Storm to a 3-0 week by hitting .500 in three starts...posted an unusual line by going 4 for 8 for the week with seven runs scored...also walked five times...doubled once and drove in a pair of runs.
