Hawai‘i Hilo sweeps latest Pacific West Conference Player, Pitcher of the Week accolades
PHOENIX, AZ – Hawai‘i Hilo senior OF
Kekoa Lee and junior reliever
Richie Mariano have been named the
Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week,
respectively.
The PacWest announced the awards on Monday, April 4, from its office in Phoenix, AZ, for games contested March 28-April 3.
(April 4, 2011) - Player of the Week (March 28 - April 3)...Kekoa Lee - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-9, 185, P/OF, L/L, Waipahu, HI/Moanalua)...led Vulcans to 4-1 week by taking 4 of 5 games from Art U...hit .429 in five starts...was 6 for 14 with six runs, a double and five RBI...walked three times and had a sacrifice fly...posted a .500 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base mark...also pitched brilliant game vs. Art U on March 30...struck out 10 in 9.0 innings...scattered nine singles, allowed no earned runs and walked one...did not get a decision...UHH won 2-1 in 11 innings.

HI/Mililani)...helped Vulcans to pair of wins at Art
U on March 30...retired all six batters faced in earning a 2-1,
11-inning win in relief over the Urban Knights in game
one...credited with a save in game two...struck out two in 2.0
innings of work...posted a 0.00 ERA in 4.0 innings of action for
the week...allowed no hits and struck out three.
PacWest Baseball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
Joe Andrade - Dixie State (Jr., 5-11, 175, C, L/R, Yuma, AZ/San Luis)...led the Red Storm to a 2-2 weekend split with Grand Canyon April 1-2 by hitting .400...went 6 for 15 with three runs, two doubles and two RBI...had a .533 slugging rate and a .400 on-base mark.
R.J. Etchebarren - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-1, 195, OF, R/R, Phoenix,
AZ/Paradise Valley)...batted .412 in four starts
during a 2-2 weekend split vs. Dixie State April 1-2...went 7 for
17 at the plate with one RBI...walked once...posted a .412 slugging
mark and a .444 on-base average.
Kalab Evans - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-8, 185, C, R/R, Creston, IA/Creston)...hit .500 in four starts during a 2-2 weekend series vs. Dixie State April 1-2...went 6 for 12 with five runs scored, two RBI, three walks and a HBP...went 4 for 4 in stolen base attempts...boasted a .667 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base mark.
P.J. Garcia - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-11, 180, 2B/SS, L/R, Phoenix, AZ/Thunderbird)...hit .571 in four starts during a 2-2 weekend series vs. Dixie State April 1-2...recorded an .857 slugging rate and a .571 on-base mark...stole a base...went 8 for 14 with one run, one double, a homer and five RBI.
Dan Hennigs - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-11, 195, U, R/L, Ferndale, WA/Ferndale)...helped the Vulcans to a 4-1 series win vs. Academy of Art...batted .375 in five starts, going 6 for 16 with two runs and three RBI...had a .524 on-base mark and a .375 slugging rate...walked three times and reached base after being hit twice.
Jonathan James - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., 6-2, 190, IF, R/R, Honolulu, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama)...helped the Vulcans to a 4-1 series win vs. Academy of Art...batted .368 in five starts, going 7 for 19 with four runs, two doubles and five RBI...had a .455 on-base mark and a .474 slugging rate...walked twice and reached once after being hit by a pitch.
Kenny Rollins - Academy of Art (Jr., 6-0, 210, IF/OF, R/R, Ayer, MA/Ayer)...hit .438 with a .438 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base average during a 1-4 series vs. Hawai‘i Hilo...went 7 for 16 with a run, two walks and two stolen bases.
Tyler Simao - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 6-1, 180, P, R/R, Makakilo,
HI/Hanalani)...tossed a complete-game, seven-inning,
four-hit shutout vs. Art U on April 1...Vulcans won the contest
9-0...struck out five, walked one and permitted four hits...Urban
Knights hit .167 in the contest.
Brady Wager - Grand Canyon (So., 6-2, 205, R/R, Globe, AZ/Globe)...earned a 10-3 conference win over first-place Dixie State on April 1...tossed seven innings in earning the victory...allowed two earned runs and four hits while striking out seven...Red Storm mustered just a .167 batting average.
Colton Yack - Dixie State (So., 5-11, 175, IF, L/R, South Jordan, UT/Bingham)...hit .417 with a .417 slugging percentage and a .417 on-base average during three starts vs. Grand Canyon April 1-2...went 5 for 12 with three runs and two RBI.
