Cal Baptist received four first-place votes and 81 total points in the poll. The Lancers shared the 2013 conference title with Grand Canyon with a 26-10 record and won their second-consecutive NCCAA World Series title. With Grand Canyon no longer in the conference, there will be nine teams competing in PacWest baseball in 2014.

Dixie State, who finished last season in third place and advanced to the NCAA West Regional, was picked second and received three first-place votes. Four teams – Azusa Pacific, Hawai'i Pacific, Fresno Pacific and Point Loma - tied for third in the poll. Azusa Pacific and Hawai'i Pacific each garnered a first-place vote. The only shakeup in the poll from the 2013 final standings occurred in the bottom third, where Holy Names was picked ahead of Hawai'i Hilo after the two teams tied for eighth last year. Academy of Art rounded out the poll.

A two-time First-Team All-PacWest selection, Moore was chosen as the PacWest Preseason Player of the Year for his senior season. Moore batted .368 with 20 doubles, eight home runs and 48 RBIs in 2013. He ranked among the league leaders last year in batting average, slugging percentage (.605), RBI,  runs scored (42), hits (62), doubles and home runs.

Herd was named the Preseason PacWest Pitcher of the Year after being named third-team all-conference as a sophomore. He posted an 8-4 record and threw a team-best seven complete games. He had a 3.03 ERA, a 5.31 strikeouts to walk ratio, and limited opponents to just a .257 batting average. He ranked fourth in the PacWest during the regular season with seven wins and 91.2 innings pitched.

The preseason All-PacWest team consists of 12 players – one at each infield position, one designated hitter, three outfielders, two starting pitchers, one relief pitcher – as well as a player and pitcher of the year.

In addition to being the preseason favorite to win the conference, Cal Baptist led all schools with four preseason All-PacWest team selections, with catcher Mark Sanchez and second baseman Antonio Chavarria joining Moore and Herd. Point Loma and Fresno Pacific also had two players selected to the team. Six of the players on the preseason team were All-PacWest honorees in 2013. Along with Moore and Herd, Dixie State first basemen Kevin Kline and Azusa Pacific outfielder Matt Kimmel were on the second team, and Point Loma outfielder Trey Hunt and Fresno Pacific outfielder Kaohu Gaspar were on the third team.
