BYU-Hawaii junior guard Jet Chang selected PacWest Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
PHOENIX, AZ - BYU-Hawaii junior guard
Tsung-Hsein (Jet) Chang (Yilan, Taiwan/Sing
Rong) has been selected the Pacific West Conference
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Feb. 7, for games contested Jan. 31-Feb. 6.
Chang led the Seasiders to a 2-0 week and sole possession of first place in the PacWest by averaging 25.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
The Seasiders beat Hawai‘i Pacific 86-75 on Feb. 2 and knocked off Hawai‘i Hilo 85-76 on Feb. 5. At 7-1, they hold a one game lead in the loss column over Chaminade, Dixie State and Grand Canyon.
Chang ranked third in scoring and eighth in rebounding for the week in the conference. He also shot 82.4% (14 for 17) from the line and averaged 2.0 three-pointers made per game.

Steven Bennett - Chaminade (Sr., 5-6, 155, G, Los Angeles,
CA/Dorsey)...posted a double-double with 12 points
and 10 assists in 83-78 win over Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 3.
Waly Coulibaly - Chaminade (So., 6-3, 180, G, Bamako, Mali/Patterson Prep)...scored 16 points and collected seven rebounds in 83-78 win over Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 3...finished the week tied for eighth in scoring and tied for ninth in rebounding...shot 60.0% (6 for 10) from the floor (tied for 6th for the week in the league)...also shot 57.1% (4 for 7) from beyond the arc.
Jake Dastrup - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 6-3, 195, G, Grant’s Pass, OR/Grant’s Pass)...helped the Seasiders to a 2-0 mark during the week and into first place in the PacWest...averaged 19.5 points per game while shooting 50.0% from the field (12 for 24) and from beyond the arc (10 for 20).
Mamadou Diarra - Chaminade (Jr., 7-0, 235, C, Bamako, Mali/Stoneridge Prep)...recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in 83-78 win over Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 3...ranked second in rebounding and 11th in scoring for the week in the conference...also rejected seven field goal attempts to lead the PacWest in blocks for the week.
Leon Hart - Dominican (CA) (Sr., 6-5, 215, F, Hayward, CA/Hayward)...helped the Penguins to a 2-0 week by averaging 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in consecutive victories over Academy of Art and Notre Dame de Namur.
Jason Jackson - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 6-8, 220, F/C,
Houston, TX/Frisco Centennial)...scored 32 points on
60.0% (12 for 20) shooting from the field in tough 86-75 loss vs.
BYU-Hawaii on Feb. 2...also had 10 rebounds in the contest to earn
a double-double.
Killian Larson - Dominican (CA) (So., 6-10, 260, C, Puyallup, WA/Puyallup)...led the Penguins to a 2-0 week by averaging 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest...tied for eighth in scoring and tied for ninth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest...shot 68.8% (11 for 16) from the floor...ranked fifth in shooting for the week in the conference.
Donovan Plunkett - Dixie State (Sr., 5-11, 160, G, Oroville, CA/Las Plumas)...poured in 19 points on 85.7% (6 for 7) shooting from the floor in 70-59 win over Grand Canyon on Feb. 5...led conference in shooting for the week...was 3 for 3 from beyond the arc...led league in three-point shooting for the week...also had two steals in the contest.
Justin Smith - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 6-6, 210, F, Los Angeles,
CA/Reseda)...produced an outstanding week despite the
Vulcans dropping both contests...averaged 29.0 points and 9.0
rebounds per game while shooting 72.2% (26 for 36) from the
floor...ranked third in shooting, second in scoring and tied for
fifth in rebounding for the week in the conference.
Marques Whippy - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 6-5, 215, G, Bua, Fiji/Woods Cross, UT)...averaged 16.5 rebounds and 8.0 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Seasiders...helped push BYU-Hawaii into sole possession of first place in the PacWest...led the league in rebounding for the week...shot 50.0% (7 for 14) from the field...tied for ninth in assists per game (3.5) for the week in the conference...also tied for fourth in steals per game (2.0)...ranked second in blocks per game (2.5) for the week.
