Hawai‘i Hilo senior forward Justin Smith named PacWest Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Hilo senior forward
Justin Smith (Los Angeles, CA/Reseda) has
been named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball
Player of the Week.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 3, for games contested Dec. 27-Jan. 2.
Smith led the Vulcans to a 2-0 week with victories vs. Concordia (MI) and Westminster (MO).
He avearged 23.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 65.7% (23 for 35) from the field. He also doled out 2.5 assists per game and averaged 1.5 blocks per contest.
Smith ranked second in scoring, tied for fourth in rebounding and finished 10th in shooting for the week in the PacWest.
PacWest Men’s Basketball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
Brad Carroll - Grand Canyon (So., 6-6, N/A, G, Chandler, AZ/Corona
del Sol)...scored 22 points in Antelopes’ 93-66
win over Southwestern (AZ) on Dec. 30...shot 88.9% (8 for 9) from
the floor and 80.0% (4 for 5) from beyond the arc...also went 2 for
2 from the line.
Keith Davis - Academy of Art (Jr., 6-4, 205, F, Long Beach, CA/Long Beach)...averaged 19.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in a 0-2 week for the Urban Knights...ranked fourth in scoring and tied for fourth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest.
Adrian den Dulk - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 6-9, 230, F, Ripon, CA/Ripon Christian)...averaged 12.0 points per game while shooting 73.3% (11 for 15) from the floor in a 2-0 week for the Sea Warriors...tied for eighth in scoring and ranked sixth in shooting for the week in the PacWest.
Royal Edwards - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-6, 210, F, Sacramento, CA/Capital Christian)...helped the Sea Warriors to a 2-0 week by averaging 14.0 and 5.0 rebounds per game...ranked sixth in scoring for the week in the conference...ranked second in shooting for the week in the league (85.7%)...made 12 of 14 field goal attempts...averaged 2.0 steals per contest.
Jeff Ford - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 6-0, 190, G, Hayward, CA/Hayward)...scored 30 points in 89-70 victory over Menlo on Dec. 31...shot 71.4% in the win by making 10 of 14 shots from the field...made 10 of 11 (90.9%) free throw attempts...also posted two steals.
Leon Hart - Dominican (CA) (Sr., 6-5, 215, F, Hayward,
CA/Hayward)...averaged 11.7 points and 5.0 rebounds
per game in a 0-3 week for the Penguins...all three games came
against Division I foes at the San Francisco Tournament...made 7 of
8 free throw attempts (87.5%).
Arron Mollet - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 6-2, 175, G, Campbell, CA/Del Mar)...scored 13 points while shooting 62.5% (5 for 8) from the floor in 89-70 victory over Menlo on Dec. 31...made 2 of 3 (66.7%) three-point attempts...also had two assists.
Czar Robotham - Academy of Art (Fr., 5-11, 160, G, Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman)...averaged 11.5 points and 4.5 assists per game in a 0-2 week for the Urban Knights...tied for third in the PacWest in assist average for the week...led the PacWest in steals for the week after averaging 2.5 per contest.
Justin Wesolewski - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-7, N/A, F, Mesa, AZ/Mountain View)...scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Antelopes’ 93-66 win over Southwestern (AZ) on Dec. 30...shot 57.1% (4 for 7) from the floor.
Zach Wilde - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 6-7, 220, F, Snohomish, WA/Snohomish)...averaged 14.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 weekend for the Vulcans...ranked fifth in scoring and first in rebounding in the PacWest for the week...hit 12 of 21 field goal attempts (57.1%)...made 5 of 7 (71.4%) free throw attempts.
