Hawai‘i Hilo junior Zach Wilde earns PacWest Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor
PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Hilo junior forward
Zach Wilde (Snohomish, WA/Snohomish) has
been named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball
Player of the Week.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 10, for games contested Jan. 3-9.
Wilde led the Vulcans to a 3-0 week by averaging a double-double and shooting over 60.0% from the floor.
He averaged 14.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game while shooting 63.0% (17 for 27) from the field.
Wilde ranked fifth in the conference for the week in shooting, second in rebounding and 11th in scoring, pushing the Vulcans to a 3-0 mark to start conference play.
PacWest Men’s Basketball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
Tsung-Hsein (Jet) Chang - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 6-4, 190, G, Yilan,
Taiwan/Sing Rong)...averaged 20.5 points per game in
a 1-1 week for the Seasiders...made 17 of 34 buckets from the field
(50.0%)...ranked second in scoring and 10th in shooting for the
week in the PacWest.
Mamadou Diarra - Chaminade (Jr., 7-0, 235, C, Bamako, Mali/Stoneridge Prep)...helped the Silverswords to a 2-0 start in PacWest action by averaging 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game...ranked fourth in rebounding and 10th in scoring for the week in the conference...led the PacWest in blocked shots per game (2.5) for the week after rejecting five over two games.
Tyler Fricke - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 6-6, 185, G, San Diego, CA/Mount Carmel)...averaged 16.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game despite a 0-3 week by the Argos...ranked ninth in scoring and tied for seventh in rebounding for the week in the conference...shot 51.4% (18 for 35) from the field, good enough for ninth in the conference for the week...hit five three-pointers.
Killian Larson - Dominican (CA) (So., 6-10, 260, C, Puyallup, WA/Puyallup)...posted a double-double in tough 75-53 loss at Hawai‘i Hilo on Jan. 8...scored 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the contest...also handed out four assists and went 2 for 2 from the line.
Arron Mollet - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 6-2, 175, G, Campbell, CA/Del Mar)...averaged 19.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for the Argos despite a 0-3 week in Hawai‘i...ranked fourth in scoring in the conference for the week...shot 77.8% (14 for 18) from the foul line.
William Overton, Jr. - Academy of Art (Fr., 6-5, 195, F, Perth Amboy, NJ/Leuzinger, CA)...averaged 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in a 0-2 week for the Urban Knights...tied for fifth in scoring and tied for seventh in rebounding in the PacWest for the week.
Justin Smith - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 6-6, 210, F, Los Angeles, CA/Reseda)...helped the Vulcans to a 3-0 start in PacWest action by averaging 20.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game...ranked fifth in rebounding and third in scoring in the conference for the week...shot 54.0% (27 for 50) from the floor to rank eighth in shooting for the week in the conference.
Rony Tchatchoua - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-5, N/A, F, Douala, Cameroon/Little Rock Christian, AR)...helped lead Antelopes to first win ever at Dixie State on Jan. 8 - a 71-68 victory...scored 17 points and collected six rebounds...shot 50.0% (5 for 10) from the floor...shot 77.8% (7 for 9) from the line.
Marques Whippy - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 6-5, 215, G, Bua, Fiji/Woods
Cross, UT)...helped lead the Seasiders to a 1-1 week
by averaging 18.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game...led the
conference in rebounding and tied for fifth in scoring for the
week...also shared the conference lead for the week in steals per
game (3.0)...tied for 10th in shooting for the week (50.0%)...made
14 of 28 field goal attempts.
Tom Whitehead - Dixie State (Sr., 6-6, 185, F, St. George, UT/Dixie)...scored 23 points in lone game of the week - a 71-68 home loss vs. Grand Canyon on Jan. 8...also had six rebounds and made 6 of 7 (85.7%) free throw attempts.
