Basketball Times tabs BYU-Hawaii 5th in preseason D-II poll; Chang named Pre-season AA

Jet Chang Laie, HI - Basketball Times has tabbed the Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team as the fifth-ranked Division II team in the nation in its preseason college basketball issue and the Seasiders’ Jet Chang as a Preseason All-American.

The Division II Bulletin ranked the Seasiders third in its pre-season poll and Chang as the Preseason NCAA II Player of the Year.

The Sporting News also ranked the Seasiders fifth earlier in the preseason and tabbed Chang as a Preseason First Team All-American and a Division II Player of the Year candidate.

The Basketball Times issue ranks Bellarmine (KY), the team BYU-Hawaii lost to in last season’s national championship game, as the top team in the division for the coming season.

The Seasiders battled the Knights to the wire in the title game before missing a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer.

Chang, a senior from Yilan, Taiwan, averaged 21.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game a year ago and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Elite Eight after averaging 33.3 points per outing during the three games of the tournament. He scored 35 points in the championship game.
