Academy of Art travels to California Baptist for PacWest Men’s Basketball Game of the Week

Luke Evans RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The 2011-12 Pacific West Conference men’s basketball schedule tips off this Saturday, Dec. 17, for Academy of Art and California Baptist when the Urban Knights travel to Riverside, Calif., to face the Lancers in the PacWest Game of the Week.

Each week during the men’s basketball season, the PacWest will spotlight a game that will be broadcast live over the Internet. Academy of Art and California Baptist will battle at 3 p.m. (PST).

Academy of Art is currently 1-8 on the season, picking up its first victory of the year vs. Simon Fraser (BC) on Dec. 10 in an 84-83 victory.

Ameer Shamsud-din Junior guard Ameer Shamsud-din (Portland, OR/Benson) leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per game, while sophomore guard William Overton, Jr., (Perth Amboy, NJ/Leuzinger) is averaging 14.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest.

Sophomore point guard Czar Robotham (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman) is contributing 10.1 points per contest.

California Baptist is 4-1 on the season and has wins over Redlands and La Sierra, as well as two victories vs. Cal State San Marcos.

Junior center Luke Evans (Oceanside, CA/El Camino) is leading the team in scoring and rebounding, posting 13.6 points and 7.6 boards per contest.

Senior forward Justus Von Wright (Arcadia, CA/Van Nuys) is contributing 11.8 points per outing.

Saturday’s contest marks the first PacWest Conference game in the sport of men’s basketball in the history of CBU athletics.
