Notre Dame de Namur visits Grand Canyon in PacWest Men’s Basketball Game of the Week

Kyle Speed PHOENIX, Ariz. – The 2011-12 Pacific West Conference men’s basketball schedule tips off this Saturday, Dec. 3, when Notre Dame de Namur visits Grand Canyon in the PacWest Game of the Week.

Each week during the men’s basketball season, the PacWest will spotlight a game that will be broadcast live over the Internet. The Antelopes and Argos will tip off at 6:30 p.m. with the audio and video broadcast available at no cost to viewers.

At 3-1 on the season, the Antelopes are receiving votes in the NABC/Division II National Poll and are currently on a three-game winning streak. Their only loss of the season came at Division I UNLV.

The Antelopes currently lead the PacWest in scoring, averaging 72.8 points per game, while they rank third in scoring defense in the league with a 69.2 points per game mark. GCU ranks first in scoring margin with a +3.5 points-per-game difference.

As a team, Grand Canyon is second in free throw shooting (73.2%) and second in field goal percentage defense (42.4%), third in three-point shooting (33.9%), and first in stopping three-point attempts by opponents (28.4%).

GCU senior guards Kyle Speed (Seattle, WA/Lake Washington) and Nick Witherill (Phoenix, AZ/Highland) lead the Antelopes’ offense. Speed is tied for eighth in the PacWest in scoring with a 13.0 points-per-game mark, while Witherill is 16th in the league with his 11.0 points-per-game average.

The Argonauts are 2-3 on the season and have won their last two contests. They are currently ranked third in the PacWest in scoring, averaging 67.0 points per game, and first in shooting (49.2%). They are tied for third in three-point shooting (33.3%) and first in rebounding defense (30.2 per game).

NDNU senior guard Arron Mollet (Campbell, CA/Del Mar) and junior forward/center Wesley White (Los Angeles, CA/Inglewood) lead the Argos’ offense. Mollet is tied for sixth in scoring in the PacWest with a 13.2 points-per-game average, while White is 10th in the league in scoring (12.6 ppg.) and shares the PacWest lead in rebounding (8.0 rpg.).

Senior guard Tyler Fricke (San Diego, CA/Mount Carmel) is averaging 11.4 points per contest.
