The NCAA unveiled the regional rankings for the eight regions around the nation on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from its headquarters in Indianapolis.
The Top 8 teams in each region will comprise the 64-team NCAA II Men's Basketball National Championship field. The tournament seletion show will be held on Sunday, March 10.
The PacWest will crown its first tournament champion March 9 following a three-day, six-team event that will be held at Azusa Pacific University starting March 7. The winner will receive the automatic berth to the NCAA II National Championship Tournament.
While Dixie State, GCU and Chaminade are the leading candidates from the PacWest to receive at-large bids to the NCAA II Championship, the inaugural PacWest Tournament could produce an automatic qualifier from any team in the field.
Dixie State, Grand Canyon and Chaminade are tied atop the PacWest standings at 14-3 with one game to play. Dixie State wins all tiebreakers and will claim the PacWest title with a victory. Grand Canyon holds the tiebreaker over Chaminade and can clinch the PacWest crown with a win and a Dixie State loss.
Chaminade needs to win and have both Dixie State and GCU to lose in order to claim the conference championship. The Silverswords are hoping for a first-round bye and need a victory coupled with a loss by either the Red Storm or the Antelopes.
The regional rankings will continue each Wednesday for the next two weeks before the selection show on March 10.
