All-around performance earns Dixie State’s Massey PacWest men’s basketball weekly honor
PHOENIX, Ariz. – Dixie State senior guard McKay Massey (Payson, UT/Payson) has been named the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The conference announced the award on Monday, Jan. 14, for games played Jan. 7-13.
Massey posted a tremendous all-around week in leading the Red Storm to a pair of conference victories over two previously unbeaten teams.
Dixie State beat Grand Canyon 71-66 on Jan. 10 - handing the Antelopes their first conference loss after five straight victories - before rolling to an 85-57 win at Azusa Pacific on Jan. 12. The Cougars entered the contest 3-0 in league play.
Massey averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.0 three-pointers made and 2.0 steals per game while boasting a 2.5 assist/turnover ratio and a 57.1 (12 for 21) shooting percentage.
He tied for 17th in scoring, tied for 15th in rebounding, tied for fourth in assist average, ranked ninth in assist/turnover ratio, and tied for seventh in thievery in the PacWest for the week.
He also tied for eighth in three-pointers made per game and shot 40% (4 for 10) from beyond the arc.

Okesene Ale (Sr., 6-2, 170, G, Hau'ula, HI/Kahuku) – BYU-Hawaii – scored 21 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out three assists in a 107-70 win vs. Art U on Jan. 7 – the lone game of the week for the Seasiders…shot 55.6% (5 for 9) from the floor and 88.9% (8 for 9) from the line…also made 3 of 6 (50.0%) attempts from beyond the arc.
Lee Bailey (So., 6-0, 180, G, Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day) – Chaminade – led the Silverswords to a 2-0 week by averaging 18.0 points per game…shot 94.4% from the line after making 17 of 18 free throw attempts.
C.J. Brown (Sr., 6-1, 170, G, Sacramento, CA/Kennedy) – Hawai'i Hilo – scored 21 points, handed out eight assists and pulled down five rebounds during a 91-86 victory over Holy Names on Jan. 7 – the lone game of the week for the Vulcans…went 7 for 9 (77.8%) from the field, 2 for 3 (66.7%) from beyond the arc, and 5 for 6 (83.3%) from the line…tied for second in shooting and tied for sixth in three-point field goal percentage for the week in the PacWest (Right Photo).
Pablo Coro (So., 6-3, 190, G, Osorno, Chile/Juan Diego, UT) – BYU-Hawaii – scored 17 points on 71.4% shooting (5 for 7) in a 107-70 victory vs. Art U on Jan. 7 – lone game of the week for the Seasiders…also shot 83.3% (5 for 6) from beyond the arc and was 2 for 2 at the line…ranked fifth in three-point shooting in the PacWest for the week.
Marko Cukic (Sr., 6-9, 235, C, Belgrade, Serbia) – Hawai'i Pacific – averaged 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Sea Warriors…tied for 15th in scoring and tied for fifth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest.
Tyler Fry (Jr., 6-3, G, Yuba, CA/Yuba City) – Holy Names – averaged 20.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game despite a 0-2 week for the Hawks…ranked fifth in scoring and tied for ninth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest.
Devin Golston (Jr., 6-6, 200, F, Cerritos, CA/Gahr) – Dominican – averaged 19.0 points per game during a 0-2 week for the Penguins…shot 48.3% (14 for 29) from the field…went 10 for 10 at the foul line.
De'Andre Haskins (Sr., 6-4, 205, G, Long Beach, CA/Jordan) – Chaminade – led the Silverswords to a 2-0 week after averaging 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game…tied for fifth in rebounding and tied for 11th in scoring in the PacWest for the week…also averaged 2.0 three-pointers made per game – tying for eighth in the PacWest for the week (Left Photo).
Killian Larson (Jr., 6-9, 270, C, Puyallup, WA/Puyallup) – Grand Canyon – averaged 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game despite a 0-2 week for the Antelopes…tied for ninth in rebounding in the PacWest for the week…shot 55.0% (11 for 20) from the field.
Troy Leaf (So., 6-3, 195, G, San Diego, CA/Foothills Christian) – Azusa Pacific – averaged 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game during a 1-1 week for the Cougars…tied for sixth in scoring and tied for fifth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest…shot 81.8% (9 for 11) from the line and 48.1% (13 for 27) from the field…also averaged 2.5 assists per contest.
Bennie Murray (Sr., 6-5, 180, G, Fairfield, CA/Will C. Wood) – Chaminade – led the Silverswords to a 2-0 week by averaging 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game…shot 86.7% (13 for 15) from the line…did not commit a turnover in 71 minutes of action.
Kiel Myers (Sr., 6-6, 215, F, Sacramento, CA/Ventura) – Hawai'i Hilo – scored 24 points and grabbed five rebounds in a 91-86 victory over Holy Names on Jan. 7 – the lone game of the week for the Vulcans…went 2 for 2 from the line and from beyond the arc…tied for 10th in shooting for the week in the PacWest after producing a 66.7 (10 for 15) field goal percentage.
Zach Robbins (So., 6-10, 200, F/C, Upland, CA/Upland) – Dixie State – led Red Storm to a 2-0 week by averaging 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game…ranked ninth in shooting for the week in the PacWest (68.8%) after making 11 of 16 field goal attempts.
Matt Samuels (Sr., 6-0, 200, G, Washington, DC/Patterson Prep) – Fresno Pacific – scored 26 points while shooting 63.6% (7 for 11) from the floor and 73.3% (11 for 15) from the line in an 83-68 win over Grand Canyon on Jan. 12 – the lone game of the week for the Sunbirds…also had four steals in the contest…ranked 17th in shooting in the PacWest for the week…posted single-game high in scoring for the week.
Wesley White (Sr., 6-7, 210, F/C, Los Angeles, CA/Inglewood) – Notre Dame de Namur – posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in a 61-58 win at HPU on Jan. – the lone game of the week for the Argos…posted the single-game rebounding high for the week in the PacWest.
