PHOENIX, Ariz. – California Baptist junior guard Anthony Romero (El Dorado Hills, CA/Rocklin) has been named the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The conference announced the award on Friday, Feb. 8, for games played Jan. 28 – Feb. 3.
Romero led the Lancers to a crucial 3-0 week with victories over Holy Names (87-56) on Jan. 28, Notre Dame de Namur (68-54) on Jan. 31, and Academy of Art (88-62) on Feb. 2 by averaging 18.7 points, 3.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game.
He ranked sixth in scoring and 11th in helping for the week in the PacWest.
But beyond his scoring was his consistency to put the ball in the net.
Combine all of his field goal attempts, three-point shots and free throws, and Romero managed to miss just eight total shots over three games.
Romero was perfect from the foul line, going 6 for 6 during his limited opportunities at free baskets. He earned his scoring from the field, shooting 70.4% (19 for 27) from the floor to rank ninth for the week in field goal percentage in the PacWest.
