Holy Names’ Ian Collins claims PacWest Men’s Basketball Player of Week for Dec. 17-23

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Holy Names senior guard Ian Collins (Sr., 6-3, G, Santa Rosa, CA/Piner) has been named the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 17-23.

HNU Hawks The conference announced the award on Sunday, Dec. 30, for games played during the week prior to the holiday break.

Collins totaled 22 points on 9 of 14 (64.3%) shooting in a 58-57 win over William Jessup on Dec. 18 – the lone game of the week for the Hawks.

He pulled down five rebounds and also made 3 of 4 (75.0%) attempts from the free throw line.

Tyler Fry (Jr., 6-3, NA, G, Yuba, CA/Yuba City) – Holy Names – scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds in 58-57 win over William Jessup on Dec. 18 – the lone game of the week for the Hawks…shot 55.6% (5 for 9) from the floor and 50.0% (3 for 6) from beyond the arc.

Devin Golston (Jr., 6-6, 200, F, Cerritos, CA/Gahr) – Dominican – scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds in 96-60 ripping of Simon Frazer on Dec. 17 – the lone game of the week for the Penguins…shot 63.6% (7 for 11) from the floor…tied for 11th in shooting in the PacWest for the week (right Photo).

Geoff Hartman (Jr., 6-3, 205, G, San Diego, CA/Monte Vista) – Notre Dame de Namur – scored 15 points while contributing four assists, two rebounds, two steals and a block in lone game of the week – a 78-71 loss at Sonoma State on Dec. 19…went 6 for 11 (54.5%) from the field and 3 for 6 (50.0%) from beyond the arc – all in 16 minutes of action.

Killian Larson (Jr., 6-9, 270, C, Puyallup, WA/Puyallup) – Grand Canyon – posted a double-double in GCU's 75-73 comeback win vs. Fresno Pacific on Dec. 17 – the lone game of the week for the Antelopes…scored 14 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and shot 75.0% (6 for 8) from the line…also had two steals…GCU rallied from a 14-point deficit in the second half for the win.

Steven Larson Steven Larson (Jr., 6-8, 240, F/C, South Jordan, UT/Copper Hills) – Dixie State – averaged 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Red Storm…shot 55.0% (11 for 20) from the field (left photo).

Troy Leaf (So., 6-3, 195, G, San Diego, CA/Foothills Christian) – Azusa Pacific – averaged 18.5 points while shooting 57.1% (12 for 21) despite a 0-2 week for the Cougars…hit 5 of 10 (50.0%) attempts from three-point land…tied for 11th in three-point shooting for the week in the PacWest…averaged 2.5 three-pointers made per game – ninth in the league for the week…tied for third in assist average during the week after doling out 4.5 per contest.

Joshua Lowery (Sr., 6-3, 200, G, Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) – Grand Canyon – hit game-winning three-pointer with 0:59 left in regulation during a 75-73 victory over Fresno Pacific on Dec. 17…led Antelopes back from a 14-point, second-half deficit…scored 21 points in the victory…made 8 of 9 (88.9%) free throw attempts…also had nine rebounds and four assists.

Michael Melonas (Sr., 6-6, 255, F, Ventura, CA/Ventura) – Hawai'i Hilo – posted a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds in lone game of the week – a tough 77-75 loss vs. St. Edward's (TX) on Dec. 19…shot 78.6% (11 for 14) from the floor – fourth-best in the PacWest for the week.

Ameer Shamsud-din Ameer Shamsud-din (Sr., 6-2, 200, G, Portland, OR/Benson) - Academy of Art – totaled 18 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in 71-68 win over Simon Frazer on Dec. 19 – the lone game of the week for the Urban Knights…went 5 for 5 from the line (right photo).

Christopher Schwartz-Edmisten (Fr., 6-3, 185, G, Sacramento, CA/Sacramento Waldorf) – Dominican – scored 14 points off the bench on 71.4% (5 for 7) shooting in 96-60 win over Simon Frazer on Dec. 17 – the lone game of the week for the Penguins…went 4 for 4 from three-point land…also had an assist and a steal…committed no fouls and had no turnovers in 23 minutes of action.

John Taylor (Jr., 6-1, 175, G, Chicago, IL/North Lawndale) – Fresno Pacific – scored 26 points, grabbed seven rebounds and shot 77.8% (7 for 9) from the line in a tough 75-73 loss at Grand Canyon on Dec. 17 – the lone game of the week for the Sunbirds.

De'Quan Thompson (So., 6-2, 205, G, Las Vegas, NV/Lake Mead Christian Academy) – Dixie State – averaged 12.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Red Storm…shot 63.6% (7 for 11) from the field and 66.7% (4 for 6) from three-point land…tied for seventh in long-distance shooting and tied for 11th in field goal percentage for the week in the PacWest…shot 77.8% (7 for 9) from the line.

Malte Ziegenhagen (So., 6-4, 205, G, Berlin, Germany) – Hawai'i Pacific – scored 18 points, collected seven rebounds and handed out two assists in HPU's lone game of the week on Dec. 19 – an 83-63 loss vs. Upper Iowa…shot 50.0% (6 for 12) from the floor and 75.0% (3 for 4) from both three-point range and the foul line.
