BYU-Hawaii’s DeAndre Medlock earns PacWest Men’s Basketball Player of Week
PHOENIX, Ariz. – BYU-Hawaii junior center DeAndre Medlock (Fresno, CA/West Clovis) has been named the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The conference announced the award on Monday, Jan. 7, for games played Dec. 31 - Jan. 6.
Medlock led the Seasiders to a pair of key PacWest victories over Holy Names and Notre Dame de Namur during the week by averaging 26.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
He topped the conference in scoring for the week and also shot a phenomenal 73.5% from the floor after making 25 of 34 field goal attempts during the two victories.

Marko Cukic (Sr., 6-9, 235, C, Belgrade, Serbia) – Hawai'i Pacific – helped Sea Warriors to a 2-0 week by averaging 17.5 points per game and shooting 77.3% (17 for 22) from the field…ranked seventh in scoring and fourth in shooting in the PacWest for the week.
Bracken Funk (Jr., 6-7, 240, F, Highland, UT/Lone Peak) – BYU-Hawaii – led Seasiders to a 2-0 week by averaging 11.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 14.5 points per game…tied for 16th in scoring, ranked first in rebounding and tied for eighth in assist average in the PacWest for the week…went 6 for 6 from the line…shot 50.0% (11 for 22) from the floor.
Devin Golston (Jr., 6-6, 200, F, Cerritos, CA/Gahr) – Dominican – scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds in 82-75 win at Hawai'i Hilo on Jan 5 – the lone game of the week for the Penguins…shot 70.0% (7 for 10) from the line and 53.3% (8 for 15) from the field…hit 2 of 3 (66.7%) shots from beyond the arc (left photo).
Dalton Groskreutz (Jr., 6-5, 195, F, Santa Clara, UT/Snow Canyon) – Dixie State – averaged 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Red Storm…shot 63.2% (12 for 19) from the field and was 5 for 5 at the foul line…tied for 11th in scoring, shooting and rebounding for the week in the PacWest.
De'Andre Haskins (Sr., 6-4, 205, G, Long Beach, CA/Jordan) – Chaminade – scored 22 points, collected nine rebounds, recorded four steals and handed out three assists in 94-65 win over Holy Names on Jan. 5 – the lone game of the week for the Silverswords…went 8 for 8 at the line…shot 54.5% (6 for 11) from the field…made 2 of 3 (66.7%) attempts from three-point range.
Troy Leaf (So., 6-3, 195, G, San Diego, CA/Foothills Christian) – Azusa Pacific – averaged 16.5 points while shooting 54.2% (13 for 24) from the field in a 1-1 week for the Cougars…hit 2 of 5 (40.0%) attempts from three-point land…ranked 10th in scoring and tied for 10th in assist average for the week in the PacWest…averaged 4.5 helpers per game during the week…also averaged 2.0 steals and shot 71.4% (5 of 7) from the line.
Bennie Murray (Sr., 6-5, 180, G, Fairfield, CA/Will C. Wood) – Chaminade – posted 18 points, three assists, three steals, three rebounds and two blocks in 94-65 win over Holy Names on Jan. 5 – the lone game of the week for the Silverswords…shot 50.0% (7 for 14) from the field and 4 for 9 (44.4%) from beyond the arc.
Kiel Myers (Sr., 6-6, 215, F, Sacramento, CA/Ventura) – Hawai'i Hilo – averaged 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game despite a 0-2 week for the Vulcans…tied for 11th in scoring and tied for 16th in rebounding in the PacWest for the week…shot 56.5% (13 for 23) from the field and went 3 for 3 at the line (right photo).
Braylon Pickrel (Sr., 6-10, 215, F/C, Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain) – Grand Canyon – led Antelopes to a 2-0 week by averaging 15.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game…ranked 14th in scoring for the week in the PacWest…shot 70.0% (7 for 10) from beyond the arc – sixth in the league for the week…also made 52.9% (9 for 17) of attempts from the floor.
Zach Robbins (So., 6-10, 200, F/C, Upland, CA/Upland) – Dixie State – led Red Storm to a 2-0 week by averaging 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game…ranked fifth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest…also tied for eighth in shooting for the week…shot 66.7% (12 for 18) from the field.
Ameer Shamsud-din (Sr., 6-2, 200, G, Portland, OR/Benson) - Academy of Art – totaled 22 points, four steals, three assists and three rebounds in a tough 72-66 loss at HPU on Jan 5 – the lone game of the week for Art U…shot 57.1% (8 for 14) from the field and 50.0% (2 for 4) from three-point range…went 4 for 4 at the line (left photo).
John Taylor (Jr., 6-1, 175, G, Chicago, IL/North Lawndale) – Fresno Pacific – averaged 23.0 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Sunbirds…ranked third in scoring in the PacWest for the week…shot 73.3% (17 for 23) from the line.
Jelany White (Jr., 5-11, 155, G, Los Angeles, CA/Crenshaw) – Hawai'i Pacific – helped push the Sea Warriors to a 2-0 week by averaging 12.0 points, 7.0 assists and 2.0 three-pointers made per game for the week…tied for second in handing out assists for the week in the PacWest…tied for seventh in three-point shooting after making 4 of 6 (66.7%) attempts from the floor…averaged 3.5 rebounds per game…posted a 3.0 assist/turnover ratio – sixth-best in the PacWest for the week.
Wesley White (Sr., 6-7, 210, F/C, Los Angeles, CA/Inglewood) – Notre Dame de Namur – averaged 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Argos…ranked third in rebounding and tied for 16th in scoring in the PacWest for the week…tied for 11th in shooting after making 12 of 19 (63.2%) field goal attempts.
