GCU captures 3rd Hawaiian Airlines PacWest title in 4 years behind medallist Terence Daniels

Terence Daniels EWA BEACH, HI – Grand Canyon senior Terence Daniels (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) fired a final round of 70 to win the individual title and lead his Antelope squad to the 2010 Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday in Ewa Beach, HI.

Daniels completed the 54-hole, two-day event with a score of 212, finishing the three rounds four strokes under par. He was the lone golfer in the tournament to break par.

Final Results

The Hawaiian Airlines PacWest Men’s Golf Championship was held at the Hawai‘i Prince Golf Course in Ewa Beach, HI, on the par 72, 6,977-yard B & C courses.

Grand Canyon captured its third PacWest title in the last four years after claiming conference championships in 2007 and 2009.

The Antelopes finished with a three-round score of 876, 13 strokes ahead of runner-up Dixie State. BYU-Hawaii claimed third with a 903, finishing just ahead of Hawai‘i Hilo’s 908.

Notre Dame de Namur took fifth (914), Academy of Art finished sixth (917) and Hawai‘i Pacific wound up seventh (933). Chaminade rounded out the team scoring with an eighth-place score of 1010.

Daniels won the first PacWest Championship individual title of his career after finishing tied for fifth last season and losing a sudden-death playoff vs. Zady Ari of Hawai‘i Hilo in 2007 on an 80-yard eagle.

He also earned All-PacWest First Team honors for the third straight season for finishing in the top seven of the league championship tournament. Golfers finishing 8-14 earn Second Team accolades.

BYU-Hawaii freshman Inoka Kahawaii (Laie, HI/Kahuku) placed second in the tournament after climbing five spots from seventh after the opening two rounds. He carded a one-under-par 71 on Tuesday to finish with a three-day total of 218. He was named All-PacWest First Team for his outstanding rookie performance.

Dixie State senior Taylor Reardon (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) finished third with a 219, while BYU-Hawaii sophomore Doug Bischoff (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Tesoro) took fourth with a 221.

Dixie State junior Conner Jones (South Jordan, UT/Bingham) finished fifth with a 222 and Hawai‘i Hilo senior Ryan Felix (Tucson, AZ) wound up sixth after posting a 223.

Academy of Art sophomore Stuart Favretto (Oakville, Ontario, Canada/St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic) and Grand Canyon senior Brandon Hill (Avondale, AZ/Millennium), who tied for seventh with identical three-round scores of 224, rounded out the All-PacWest First Team.

Six players comprised the All-PacWest Second Team, including four who tied for ninth with scores of 225, and two who shared 13th with a 227.

Dixie State sophomore Kyle Chappell, NDNU junior Bryan Moquin (Redwood City, CA/Serra), sophomore Ryan Sheffer (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic), and Grand Canyon junior Daniel Harrington (Chandler, AZ/Dobson) tied for ninth overall and claimed All-PacWest Second Team accolades.

Dixie State senior Cameron Crawford (Sandy, UT/Jordan) and Grand Canyon senior Bentley Nakasawa (Yuma, AZ/Yuma Catholic) shared 13th place and All-PacWest Second Team honors.
