Hawai‘i Hilo finishes 11th at NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship

Corey Kozuma FLORENCE, AL - Hawai‘i Hilo tied for 11th at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship.

The Vulcans posted a three-day score of 902 in the tournament held May 16-18.

Corey Kozuma tied for 28th overall with a three-day score of 223, while Neil Cabico and Blake Snyder tied for 44th with a 227 each.

Chico State junior Kyle Souza claimed the individual medalist honors in a three-hole playoff, while eight teams advanced to the quarterfinal at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals Fighting Joe Course.

Souza and Lynn University sophomore Daniel Young were tied at four-under-par after three rounds and 54 holes at the Division II Championship and played hole 18 three times before Souza claimed the title with a par to a double-bogey for Young.

Lynn University claimed the top seed in team play with a three round 864 even-par total.

The Fighting Knights will play No. 8 Barton College in the quarterfinal round of Medal Match Play at 7:00 a.m. Thursday.

This is the first year that the Division II Championship will be decided by Medal Match Play.

Also teeing off at 7 a.m. is fourth-seeded Central Oklahoma against No. 5 Central Missouri.

Second-seeded Abilene Christian plays No. 7 Fort Lewis at 7:45 a.m. and third-seeded California State University Monterey Bay plays No. 6 Newberry College.

Following the quarterfinal round in the morning, the four winning teams from the morning round will tee-off at 1 p.m. in the semifinal round.

The championship round is scheduled for Friday at 10:00 a.m.
