Dixie St. 4th, UHH 7th, GCU 8th after opening round of NCAA II Central/West Regional
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Dixie State is tied for fourth,
while Hawai‘i Hilo and Grand Canyon stand seventh and eighth,
respectively, following Monday’s opening round of the NCAA Division II Central/West Men’s Golf
Regional in Albuquerque, N.M.
The three-day, 54-hole regional is being held May 2-4 at The Championship Golf Course at the University of New Mexico. Golfers are playing on the Par 72, 7324-yard course.
The Red Storm is tied for fourth with Western Washington following a two-over-par 290 team score, while the Vulcans are four over par at 292. Grand Canyon is five over at 293.
Individually, Travis Russell of Hawai‘i Hilo is tied for
third after carding a three-under-par 69 through the opening 18
holes. Dixie State’s Chad Crowther is tied for eighth with a
two-under-par 70, while Dixie State’s Kyle Chappell is
one-under-par at 71 and tied for 15th.
UHH’s Blake Snyder – the PacWest Champion - and Grand Canyon’s Matt Pridey are among six players at even par and tied for 19th overall.
The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from the regional will advance to the national finals May 16-20 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals in Florence, Ala. The NCAA Division II National Championship will be hosted by the University of North Alabama.
