GCU 13th heading into final round
BLAINE, WA - Grand Canyon fired a 21-over-par round of 305 for the second straight day and now is tied for 13th heading into the final round of the NCAA Division II National Championship at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, WA.
Bentley Nakasawa (Yuma, AZ/Catholic) had Thursday's best round
with a 3-over-par 74. He is the top Antelope golfer after three
rounds and is currently tied for 34th at 13-over-par.
The final round of the 72-hole tournament is Friday.
The Antelopes are tied with Wayne State at 59-over-par. CSU San Bernardino leads the event at 27-over. The Coyotes have an eight-stroke lead over Barry (FL) and nine-stroke advantage over Sonoma (CA) State and Columbus (GA) State.
The Antelopes are nine strokes behind ninth-place Indianapolis and 14 behind sixth-place North Alabama. Two weeks ago at the NCAA II Super Regional, Grand Canyon rallied from a 19-hole disadvantage on the final day to earn the trip to Washington.
On Thursday, Nakasawa and Tyler Wooldridge (Carefree, AZ/Cactus Shadows) recorded three birdies each to post six of the seven recorded by the Antelopes.
Wooldridge finished with a 75 and is 16-over-par for three rounds.
Brandon Hill (Avondale, AZ/Millennium), who was GCU's top
individual performer after the first two days, shot 78 Thursday and
is tied with Wooldridge at 16-over-par.
Mike Krahe (Flagstaff, AZ/Sinagua) also had a 78 on Thursday. He is 21-over-par for the tournament. Terence Daniels (Smith's, Bermuda/Scottsdale Desert Mountain), who had GCU's best round Wednesday at 2-over-par, shot a 79 and is 18-over-par heading into the final round.
San Bernardino's Gene Webster is the individual leader at even-par. He has a two-stroke lead over Wayne State's Steve Cuzzort and Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Gavin Smith.
