Grand Canyon's Kyle Ciliento earns ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors

Kyle Ciliento PHOENIX, AZ - Grand Canyon University sophomore forward Kyle Ciliento (Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle) has been named to the 2010 ESPN Academic All-America College Division men's soccer third team.

The announcement was made today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Ciliento has a 3.96 cumulative grade-point average. He is majoring in business administration.

The awards have continued to pile up for Ciliento. Two days ago, he was named the Daktronics West Region Men's Soccer Player of the Year. Last week, he was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-PacWest.

He was selected as PacWest Men’s Soccer Player of the Week twice this year, on Sept. 13 and Nov. 8, and made the PacWest Men’s Soccer Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll seven times.

Ciliento leads the nation in points per game (3.0), total points (60), goals per game (1.35) and total goals (27).

His 27 goals led the Antelopes to the PacWest Championship, their fourth in the five-year history of men’s soccer in the conference, and to the finals of the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship West Regional where they lost to Chico State on Sunday 2-1. 

Ciliento led the conference this season in shots (89), shots per game (4.45), points (60), points per game (3.0), goals (27), goals per game (1.35) and game-winning goals (9). He also was tied for fourth in the league in assists (6) and ranked seventh in assists per game (0.30).

Last year, he was named PacWest Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, and he was a First Team All-American.

Ciliento now has 50 career goals, the second most in GCU history and just five fewer than the record of 55 set by Manoel Coelho in 1997-99. His 111 career points ranks second behind Coelho’s 131.
