Hawai‘i Pacific's Richard Guffens chosen PacWest Men’s Soccer Player of the Week

PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific junior forward Richard Guffens (Leiden, Netherlands) has been chosen the first Pacific West Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for 2010.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Wednesday, Sept. 8, for games played Aug. 28-Sept. 5.

Guffens posted four points on a goal and two assists in HPU’s 4-0 blanking of Cal State East Bay on Sept. 4. He scored what would prove to be the game-winner at 12:57, then assisted on the game’s second and third goals to put the Sea Warriors ahead 3-0.

William Barber - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-9, 155, M, Norwich, England/Taverham)...scored game-winning goal in Seasiders’ 4-1 victory over Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 4.

Chance Bukoski - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 6-0, 185, F, Lihue, HI/Kapaa)...scored a pair of goals in 4-0 victory over Cal State East Bay on Sept. 4...finished the game with four points.

Matthew Carlson - Dominican (CA) (So., 6-4, 175, GK, San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa)...recorded nine saves in 110 minutes of action during a 0-0 double-overtime draw at UC San Diego on Sept. 2.

Isiah Castro - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 5-11, 185, GK, Watsonville, CA/Watsonville)...halted all five shots on net in victory over UC San Diego on Sept. 4...earned a shutout for his effort.

Kay Flache - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., 5-8, 160, GK, Schweinfurt, Germany)...halted a pair of shots and pitched a shutout in 4-0 HPU victory over Cal State East Bay on Sept. 4.

Mitchell Garcia - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-10, 175, M, Avondale, AZ/Agua Fria)...scored game’s first goal off a free kick at 27:32...gave Antelopes a 1-0 lead over Montana State-Billings...teams would settle for a 1-1 double-overtime draw.

Robin Furuya - Hawai‘i Hilo (Fr., 5-11, 145, F, Japan)...tallied game-winning goal in the 15th minute of a 1-0 non-league victory over BYU-Hawaii on Aug. 28.

Eric Lowe - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-7, 140, F, Kettering, OH/Massaponax)...scored first goal to put BYU-Hawaii up 1-0 in a 4-1 win over Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 4.

Cristobal Montes - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 5-9, 150, F, Fremont, CA/John F. Kennedy)...punched in insurance goal in the 65th minute to give the Argos a 2-0 lead...NDNU would beat UC San Diego 2-0.
