Art U's Andrew Cruz claims PacWest Player of the week honor

Andrew Cruz PHOENIX, AZ - Academy of Art junior forward Andrew Cruz (Pleasanton, CA/Foothill) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Oct. 4, for games played Sept. 27 - Oct. 3.

Cruz was simply phenomenal as he led the Urban Knights to a 4-0 week in Hawai‘i. He scored seven goals, added an assist, and totaled 15 points.

He scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at BYU-Hawaii on Sept. 27, two days before setting the PacWest single-game goal record vs. Chaminade when he tallied five times in the first 56:20.

He finished that game with a PacWest record 10 points in the 5-0 triumph that also featured his second game-winner of the week.

On Oct. 1 at Hawai‘i Hilo, Cruz set up the game-tying goal in the 55th minute of a 3-2 double-overtime victory for the Urban Knights.

On Oct. 3, he scored the game’s first goal in a 2-1 Art U overtime win at Chaminade.

Andrew Durano - Academy of Art (Fr., 5-8, 145, M, Portland, OR/Jesuit)...assisted on game-winning goal at BYU-Hawaii on Sept. 27...Academy of Art won contest 1-0...assisted on three straight goals in a 5-0 rout of Chaminade on Sept. 29...finished week with four points on four assists.

Kay Flache - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., 5-8, 160, GK, Schweinfurt, Germany)...earned a pair of victories at Dixie State on Sept. 30 and Oct. 2...blanked the Red Storm 1-0 on Sept. 30...earned a 2-1 victory on Oct. 2...halted 6 of 7 shots on net...recorded a 0.50 goals against average and an .857 save percentage.

Patrick Heinemann Grimur Grimsson - Academy of Art (Fr., 5-7, 135, F, Seltjarnarnes, Iceland)...scored deciding goal 7:44 into overtime to give Urban Knights a 2-1 win over Chaminade on Oct. 3.

Patrick Heinemann - Academy of Art (Fr., 6-1, 160, M, South Bergisch Gladbach, Germany)...totaled five points on a goal and three assists in 4-0 week for the Urban Knights in Hawai‘i...forced overtime with game-tying goal in the 55th minute on Oct. 1 vs. Hawai‘i Hilo...set up game-winner just 1:33 into the second overtime period...Art U won in double-overtime 3-2...assisted on two goals in 5-0 win at Chaminade on Sept. 29.

Vilmunder Sveinsson - Academy of Art (Jr., 6-2, 175, D, Reykjavik, Iceland)...scored game-winning goal at 111:33 of overtime at Hawai‘i Hilo on Oct. 1...goal gave the Urban Knights a 3-2 win...assisted on game-winner at the 0:53 mark in Art U’s 5-0 blanking of Chaminade on Sept. 29...amassed three points during the week on the goal and assist.

Cordero Young - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-11, 165, M, Orlando, FL/Central Florida Christian Academy)...helped GCU to 2-0-0 week by totaling four points on a goal and two assists...assisted on the game-winning goal in 4-0 banking of BYU-Hawaii on Sept. 30...assisted on game-winner vs. BYU-Hawaii on Oct. 2 in 4-3 triumph...also scored a goal in the Oct. 2 contest that put GCU ahead 2-0.
