GCU senior midfielder Mitchell Garcia named PacWest Men’s Soccer Player of Week
PHOENIX, AZ - Grand Canyon senior midfielder
Mitchell Garcia (Avondale, AZ/Agua Fria)
has been chosen the first Pacific West Conference Men’s
Soccer Player of the Week for 2011.
The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Tuesday, Sept. 6, for games played Aug. 29-Sept. 4.
Garcia posted three points on a goal and an assist during Antelopes’ 2-0-0 week.
He scored the game-winner in a 3-0 win over Colorado State Pueblo on Sept. 2, and he assisted on the game’s first goal in a 2-1 GCU double-overtime victory vs. Cal Poly Pomona on Sept. 4.

Adam Garcia - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-11, 165, GK, Avondale, AZ/Westview)...posted a 2-0 record for the Antelopes to start the year...allowed just one goal in 190:36 of action...recorded a 0.47 goals against average with an .833 save percentage in two starts...earned a shutout win on Sept. 2 vs. Colorado State-Pueblo...GCU won contest 3-0...claimed a huge 2-1 twin-overtime victory vs. Cal Poly Pomona on Sept. 4...totaled five saves during the week.
Keoki Haole - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., 5-7, 150, F, Honolulu, HI/Kapolei)...scored game-winning goal in Vulcans 1-0 win over Cornerstone (MI) on Aug. 30...tallied game-winner in the 39th minute.
Josiah Holtz - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 6-7, 220, GK, Claremont, FL/Eastridge)...earned 2-1 double-overtime victory vs. Cornerstone (MI) on Sept. 2...halted four of five shots on net...boasted a 0.82 goals against average and an .800 save percentage in the win.
Bent Jensen - BYU-Hawaii (So., 6-1, 160, F, Beaverton, OR/Westview)...scored game-tying goal in Seasiders’ 2-1 double-overtime victory vs. Cornerstone (MI) on Sept. 2...scored tying goal in 44th minute to eventually force OT.
Kamuela Kamoe - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-7, 140, M, Orem, UT/Orem)...scored game-winning goal in Seasiders’ 2-1 double-overtime victory over Cornerstone (MI) on Sept. 2...winning goal came on a penalty kick with :36 left in the game.
