Azusa Pacific’s Steven Shiokari named PacWest Men’s Soccer Player of Week

Steven Shiokari PHOENIX, Ariz. – Azusa Pacific junior midfielder Steven Shiokari (San Jose, CA/Leigh) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.

The conference announced the honor on Monday, Oct. 15, for games contested Oct. 8-14.

Shiokari rallied the Cougars by Holy Names on Oct. 8 in a 3-2 come-from-behind overtime victory.

He netted the game-tying goal at 54:15 before knocking in the game-winner at 99:21 – just :39 before the first overtime period expired.

Shiokari finished the game with two goals and four points and gave the Cougars a boost in what would prove to be a 3-0-0 week.

Oktay Bulut (Jr., 5-11, 155, M, Ruesselsheim, Germany) - Azusa Pacific – totaled five points on two goals and an assist during a 3-0-0 week for the Cougars…scored game-winning goal vs. Chaminade on Oct. 11 in 5-1 win…added an insurance goal in the contest…assisted on game-winning goal in 3-0 blanking of BYU-Hawaii on Oct. 13.

Eric Christensen (Fr., 5-8, 155, D, Layton, UT/Layton) – Dixie State – scored game-winning goal with 1:17 left in regulation in 2-1 win over BYU-Hawaii on Oct. 8.

Jose Furman (Fr., 5-9, F, Miami, FL/Miami Country Day) - Chaminade – scored game-winning goal at 71:23 in 1-0 road victory at Point Loma on Oct. 13.

Sam Galloway (Jr., 5-10, M, Akron, OH/Bowling Green) - Chaminade – scored two goals and totaled four points in a 1-2-0 week for the Silverswords…scored lone goal in 3-1 loss at California Baptist on Oct. 8…also tallied only goal in 5-1 loss at Azusa Pacific on Oct. 11.

Paul Islas Armando Garcia (Jr., 6-0, F, Redwood City, CA/Sequoia) - Notre Dame de Namur – scored the game-winning goal and added an assist on the insurance goal in a 2-0 win over Holy Names on Oct. 13…finished contest with three points in lone game of the week for the Argos.

Leonardo Grigg (So., 6-0, 150, F, La Verne, CA/Bonita) - Azusa Pacific – totaled four points on two goals in 5-1 victory over Chaminade on Oct. 11…scored in 47th and 51st minutes.

Paul Islas (Sr., 5-7, 150, F, Fresno, CA/Bullard) - Fresno Pacific – totaled five points on two goals and an assist during a 6-0 shutout of Dominican on Oct. 10…credited with game-winning goal.
