Grand Canyon, NDNU earn berths in 2012 NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship
INDIANAPOLIS – Grand Canyon and Notre Dame de Namur have earned berths in the 2012 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship.
The Argos and Antelopes learned of their selections on Monday, Nov. 5, during the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship Selection Show live from Indianapolis.
The NCAA II Men's Soccer Championship field consists of 35 teams selected from eight regions throughout the country. Each region varies in the number of teams selected and ranges from two to six teams.
Teams from the same region will be paired for first- and/or second-round competition that will be conducted Nov. 8-11 on campus sites. Third-round and quarterfinals will be held on campus sites and completed by Nov. 18.
The semifinals and final will be played Nov. 29 and Dec. 1 at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga., and will be hosted by the Peach Belt Conference.
NDNU (13-4-1) will enter the tournament as the West Region No. 5 seed and will square off against No. 4 Cal State Stanislaus on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m.
The contest will be played on the campus of Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif. with the winner of the game set to face West Region top seed Simon Fraser on Nov. 10.
Located in Burnaby, B.C., #1 Simon Fraser will host the regional in California instead of in its home nation of Canada.
As the #2 seed, Grand Canyon will host the flipside of the West Region bracket in Phoenix, Ariz., beginning on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. when No. 3 Seattle Pacific and No. 6 Cal State Los Angles do battle.
The Antelopes (15-2-1) will host the winner on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m.
