AAU's Amos Maru claims another PacWest honor

PHOENIX, AZ - Academy of Art sophomore Amos Maru (Nandi Hills, Kenya) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this year.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Oct. 5, for races contested on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Maru finished 35th out of 245 runners at the 2009 Oklahoma State University Cowboy Jamboree. He completed the 8K course in a time of 24:59.70 and was the top finisher among Academy of Art entries.

He led the Urban Knights to a 16th-place finish out of 25 teams and ahead of seven Division I programs.

Geoffrey Cheruiyot - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-9, 129, Nairobi, Kenya)...finished third among AAU runners and 146th out of 245 overall entries at the 2009 Oklahoma State University Cowboy Jamboree...helped Urban Knights grab 16th place out of 25 teams...AAU finished ahead of seven Division I schools...finished with a time of 26:45.70 on the 8K course...field consisted of predominantly Division I programs.

Nick Cross - Grand Canyon (So., 6-0, 140, Apache Junction, AZ/Apache Junction)...was 15th overall and fourth among four-year runners at the Grand Canyon University Invitational on Oct. 3...completed the 10K race in a time of 37:43.60.

Chris Lewis - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-10, 135, Peoria, AZ/Raymond S. Kellis)...finished sixth overall and first among four-year runners at the Grand Canyon University Invitational on Oct. 3...completed the 10K race in a time of 35:05.01.

Miles Lindsay - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-10, 148, Chula Vista, CA/Barstow)...finished 10th overall and third among four-year runners at the Grand Canyon University Invitational on Oct. 3...completed the 10K race in a time of 36:23.40.

Daveson Marindich (left) - Academy of Art (So., 5-9, 120, Eldoret, Kenya)...finished second among the Urban Knights and 85th out of 245 runners at the 2009 Oklahoma State University Cowboy Jamboree...helped AAU take 16th out of 25 teams...Urban Knights finished ahead of seven Division I schools...posted a time of 25:49 on the 8K course.

Simon Mutai - Academy of Art (So., 5-7, 119, Nakuru, Kenya)...finished fourth among AAU runners and 182nd out of 245 entries at the 2009 Oklahoma State University Cowboy Jamboree...was instrumental in leading the Urban Knights to a 16th-place finish out of 25 teams...AAU finished ahead of seven Division I schools...finished with a time of 27:26.80 on the 8K course...field consisted of predominantly Division I programs.

Aaron Sommer - NDNU (Sr., 5-10, 150, Cupertino, CA/H.S. Information not available)...placed 122nd out of 194 runners at the 2009 Willamette Invitational on Oct. 3...finished 8K course in a time of 26:42.00...finished third among Argonaut entries.

Johnny Yerena (right) - NDNU (Sr., 5-7, 150, West Covina, CA/West Covina)...top Argonaut finisher at the 2009 Willamette Invitational on Oct.3...recorded a time of 25:45.47...finished 62nd out of 194 runners...NDNU placed 17th out of 19 teams.
