Grand Canyon’s Kip Mutai claims All-Region by taking 14th at NCAA II West Regional
BELLINGHAM, WA – Grand Canyon junior
Kip Mutai (Bomet, Kenya) finished
14th at the 2010 NCAA II West Regional hosted by Western
Washington in Bellingham on Saturday, Nov. 20, in three inches of
snow.
Mutai, who completed the frosty 10K course in 32:25.7, claimed All-Region honors for finishing in the Top 15 of the race.
He was the fastest runner among all of the entries from the Pacific West Conference and led the Antelopes to a 14th-place finish. BYU-Hawaii posted the best team finish among all PacWest schools by taking ninth.
In men’s cross country, the top four teams at the West Regional qualify for the NCAA II National Championship race, while the top two individual runners not on a qualifying team also earn a chance to compete against the nation’s best.
Mutai was third among the individuals on non-qualifying teams and just missed earning a trip to the NCAA II National Championship in Louisville, KY, on Dec. 4.
