PHOENIX, AZ - Academy of Art senior Amos Maru (Nandi Hills, Kenya) has been chosen the first Pacific West Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week of 2011.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Sept. 5, for races contested on Sept. 3.

Maru finished 17th overall at the predominantly Division I University of San Francisco Invitational. Maru posted a time of 25:37 in the 8K race to finish first among all Urban Knight entries. He helped Art U to a fourth-place team finish in the race.

PacWest Men’s Cross Country Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Matt Belliston - BYU-Hawaii (So., 5-10, 155, Loveland, OH/Milford)...placed ninth overall and second among Seasider runners at the 2011 Hawai‘i Pacific Invite on Sept. 3...recorded a time of 27:28 on the 8K course...led Seasiders to a second-place finish.

Spencer Deavila - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-10, 145, Orange County, CA/Highland)...took sixth overall and first among BYU-Hawaii runners at the 2011 Hawai‘i Pacific Invite on Sept. 3...posted a time of 27:05 on the 8K course...led Seasiders to a second-place finish.

Victor Delgado - California Baptist (Jr., 6-0, Beaumont, CA/Beaumont)...finished 27th among four-year competitors and fourth among Lancer runners at the 2011 Cal State Fullerton Season Opener on Sept. 3...recorded a time of 26:47.6 on the 8K course...California Baptist placed fourth among four-year schools.

Trevor Henson - California Baptist (Fr., 6-0, Menifee, CA/Paloma Valley)...was 10th among four-year competitors at the 2011 Cal State Fullerton Season Opener on Sept. 3...posted a time of 25:58.4 on the 8K course...finished first among Lancer entries and second among non-Division I runners...California Baptist took fourth among four-year schools.

Javier Madrid - California Baptist (Sr., 6-2, Yucaipa, CA/Yucaipa)...finished 11th among four-year runners at the 2011 Cal State Fullerton Season Opener on Sept. 3...posted a time of 26:00.7 on the 8K course...finished second among Lancer entries and third among non-Division I runners...California Baptist took fourth in team scoring vs. four-year institutions.

Daveson Marindich - Academy of Art (Sr., 5-9, 120, Eldoret, Kenya)...finished 18th at University of San Francisco Invitational on Sept. 3...recorded time of 25:39 on 8K course...was second among Urban Knight runners...Art U took fourth as a team.

Michael McPherson - Dixie State (Fr., 6-0, South Jordan, UT/Bingham)...placed 13th among all four-year runners and second among Division II entries at the 2011 George Kyte Classic at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff, AZ, on Sept. 3...recorded a time of 28:04.1 on the 8K course...top runner for Dixie State in the event...Red Storm grabbed fifth place in the race.

Mitchell Moore - California Baptist (Jr., 6-0, Whittier, CA/La Habra)...finished 16th among four-year runners at the 2011 Cal State Fullerton Season Opener on Sept. 3...registered at time of 26:22.1 on the 8K course...finished third among Lancer entries and sixth among non-Division I runners...California Baptist took fourth in team scoring vs. four-year institutions.

Kipkorir Mutai - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-6, 120, Bomet, Kenya/Kabusare)...finished 13th among all four-year runners and first among Grand Canyon entries at the 2011 George Kyte Classic at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff, AZ, on Sept. 3...recorded a time of 27:53.1 on the 8K course...Antelopes placed fourth in the race.

Simon Mutai - Academy of Art (Sr., 5-7, 120, Nakuru, Kenya)...finished 24th among all runners and third among non-Division I competitors at the University of San Francisco Invitational on Sept. 3...recorded a time of 26:42.00 on the 8K course...placed third among Urban Knight runners...Art U took fourth as a team.
