Grand Canyon University’s Sharles Simon 54th at NCAA II Men's XC National Championship
JOPPA, Mo. - Grand Canyon University's Sharles Simon finished in 54th at the NCAA II Men's Cross Country National Championship on Saturday morning, Nov. 17, in Joplin, Mo.
A total of 245 individuals competed in the championship race.
Simon completed the fast 10k course in a time of 30:46.1 - 1:36 quicker than his sixth-place time at the NCAA II West Region Championship on Nov. 3 in Kahuku, Hawai'i.
"It was a fast race on a course that was all grass with rolling hills," Head Coach Kim Sims said. "With that said, Sharles ran a personal best, just six seconds off of his time on the track. His time today is a great indicator of how competitive he will be during the track season. It's great to see Sharles finish his cross country season at the Nationals with a personal best and as his coach, I couldn't be happier."
Simon was in 60th place over the first half the course, posting a time of 14:54.8. He gained six spots over the final 5K.
