HPU's Ciera Senas, Sherise Musquiz sweep first weekly awards of 2010
HPU sweeps PacWest weekly softball awards
PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific senior OF Ciera Senas (Wahiawa, HI/Mililani) and senior hurler Sherise Musquiz (Rivera, CA/El Rancho) have been named the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Feb. 8, for games contested Feb. 1-7.
Senas batted .500 in the Sea Warriors' two-game sweep of
BYU-Hawaii on Feb. 5, going 4 for 8 with three runs scored, four
RBI, a double, a triple, seven total bases and an .875 slugging
rate.
She also had a .500 on-base mark and was 2 for 2 in stolen base attempts.
Musquiz registered a win and a save vs. BYU-Hawaii during the same non-league doubleheader.
She allowed just one hit and one walk in six innings of action over the two games, teaming up with Ashley Valine to record a shutout in the contest where she claimed the save. Opponents managed to hit just .053 against her.
PacWest Softball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
Alana Aweau - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-10, IF, L/R, Fairfield,
CA/Armijo)...batted .500 in split with Cal St.
Stanislaus on Feb. 3...went 4 for 8 with two runs scored and four
RBI...smacked a home run...posted an .875 slugging average and a
.500 on-base rate.
Ivy Campas - Grand Canyon (So., 5-2, P, R/R, Tucson, AZ/Sunnyside)...earned a 5-0 shut out in first game of the season on Feb. 5...tossed the complete-game blanking vs. Sonoma (CA) State...struck out one, scattered four hits and allowed a .174 batting average.
Shampayne Clay - Academy of Art (Sr., 5-7, IF, R/R, San Leandro, CA/Arroyo)...batted .375 in a 1-1 start to the 2010 season...split a pair of games vs. Cal St. Stanislaus on Feb. 3...was 3 for 8 with three doubles, four RBI and a .750 slugging percentage...was 2 for 2 in stolen base attempts.
Kaycee Gamez - Grand Canyon (So., 5-7, SS, L/R, Eugene, OR/Sheldon)...hit .600 (3 for 5) in pair of victories for Antelopes on Feb. 5...smacked two doubles, ripped a triple, scored three times and walked twice...had a 1.400 slugging rate to go along with a .714 on-base average.
Ashley Lokey - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-4, OF, L/R, Eugene,
OR/Elmira)...hit .500 in a pair of games to start the
year...AAU posted a 1-1 mark vs. Cal St. Stanislaus on Feb.
3...went 4 for 8 with three runs scored and one RBI.
Caira Pires - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., 5-4, IF, R/R, Kailua, HI/Kalaheo)...hit .429 in a twinbill sweep of BYU-Hawaii on Feb. 6...went 3 for 7 with two runs scored, two RBI and a home run...also walked once...had an .857 slugging rate and a .500 on-base percentage.
Amy Searcy - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-6, P, R/R, Bixby, OK/Bixby)...earned a 7-1 victory over Cal St. Monterey Bay in season opener on Feb. 5...tossed a complete game by striking out four over seven innings of action...registered a 1.29 ERA...permitted a .200 batting average in the game...allowed just five base hits.
Jayme Stewart - Academy of Art (So., 5-10, C, R/R, Shingle
Springs, CA/Ponderosa)...hit .500 in a doubleheader
split with Cal St. Stanislaus on Feb. 3...went 3 for 6 with one
run, one double, three RBI and a sacrifice fly...posted a .667
slugging mark and a .429 on-base rate.
Chante Tesoro - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., 5-1, U, L/R, Kaneohe, HI/Hawaii Baptist Academy)...went 2 for 5 with a run and three RBI in doubleheader sweep of BYU-Hawaii on Feb. 6.
Ashley Valine - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-9, P, R/R, Shell Beach, CA/San Luis Obispo)...scored a 4-0 win at BYU-Hawaii in a non-conference contest on Feb. 6...posted a 1.50 ERA in six innings of work...struck out one batter.
