Sherise Musquiz HPU falls to Central Washington, teams now battle for in West Region finale

KANEOHE, HI – Central Washington staved off elimination and forced a winner-take-all finale on Sunday after defeating Hawai‘i Pacific 3-2 at the NCAA Division II Softball West Regional in Kaneohe, HI.

Central Washington and HPU will face each other for the Sub-Regional finale on Sunday afternoon. The game can be heard live at www.redzonemedia.com.

Sherise Musquiz (27-2) lost just her second contest of the season, pitching all nine innings. She allowed two earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts. Lauren Hadenfeld (24-5) allowed two runs on eight hits for the win.

Jennifer Schwartz and Kelsey Haupert each recorded two hits and one RBI, with Haupert adding one run scored.

Nicole Morrow and Caira Pires went 2 for 4 for the Sea Warriors.

CWU scored a run in the first inning, but HPU responded with two runs in the fourth on a two-run blast by Musquiz.

CWU tied the game in the sixth inning and took the lead for good in the ninth. Taylor Trautman (1-1, 1 R) hit a lead-off triple, then came home on an RBI-base hit by Schwartz.
