honors
PHOENIX, AZ – Dixie State senior 2B Shantae Hunter (Idaho Falls, ID/Idaho Falls) and junior hurler Brittnie Whipple (Moab, UT/Grand) have been named the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
The awards were announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, May 3, for games contested April 26-May 2.
Hunter b
atted .714 in doubleheader sweep of Division I Southern Utah on May
1, going 5 for 7 with three runs scored, one RBI and a .714
slugging rate.
She also had a .714 on-base mark and stole a base.
Whipple earned the honor for the second straight week, posting a 2-0 record in two games and one start on May 1 - also a doubleheader sweep of Division I Southern Utah.
Whipple tossed a five-inning, complete-game, one-hit shutout in her game one start before earning a victory in relief by tossing 1.1 innings of work in game two. She allowed no hits in her relief win.
In the two victories, Whipple permitted no runs, one walk, one hit, a .048 batting average and a 0.00 ERA in 6.1 innings of work.

home run...drove in five runs and hit a sacrifice fly...posted a
1.000 slugging percentage and a .333 on-base average...was a
perfect 10 for 10 in defensive chances.
Anna Cue - Dixie State (Fr., 5-5, 1B/OF, L/L, Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley)...hit .500 in twinbill sweep of Division I Southern Utah on May 1...went 3 for 6 with one RBI...had a .500 slugging rate and a .500 on-base percentage.
Breanna Egge - Dixie State (Jr., 5-4, C, R/R, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial)...hit .500 in 2-0 week vs. Division I Southern Utah...went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, one double and two RBI...had a .750 slugging rate and a .500 on-base mark.
Bailie Hicken - Dixie State (So., 5-4, OF, L/R, Cedar Hills, UT/Lone Peak)...helped Red Storm to a sweep of Division I Southern Utah on May 1...had just one hit in five at-bats, but scored three runs, drove in two others and stole two bases...walked once and was hit by a pitch.
Kylee Higgins - Dixie State (So., 5-5, C, R/R, Layton,
UT/Layton)...helped Red Storm sweep Division I
Southern Utah on May 1...hit .333 in two starts...went 2 for 6 with
an RBI...had a .333 on-base mark and a .333 slugging percentage.
Kelsey Mendenhall - Dixie State (So., 5-4, 3B, R/R, Tooele, UT/Tooele)...batted .500 in two starts vs. Southern Utah...helped the Red Storm sweep the Division I Thunderbirds...went 1 for 2 with one run, one double and one RBI...walked three times and hit a sacrifice fly...had a 1.000 slugging rate and a .667 on-base mark.
Cassi Merrill - Dixie State (Jr., 5-4, OF, L/R, Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Foundations for Future)...ripped a key double and scored a run to help the Red Storm sweep Division I Southern Utah.
Ashley McFarland - Dixie State (Jr., 5-10, SS, R/R, Layton, UT/Layton)...batted .250 in two starts vs. Division I Southern Utah...went 1 for 4 with two runs scored, a walk and a hit by pitch...had a .500 on-base average.
Katlyn Nelson - Dixie State (So., 5-3, OF, R/R, Wilsonville, OR/Wilsonville)...smashed a walk-off game-winning single in the bottom of the seven in 7-6 victory over Southern Utah on May 1.
