D-II National Player of Week
STARKVILLE, MS – Dixie State junior Brittnie Whipple (Moab, UT/Grand) has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Pitcher of the Week.
The honor was announced on April 28 from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's headquarters in Starkville, MS, for games contested April 19-25.
Whipple went 4-0 last week allowing just eight hits, three walks and one run over 25.0 innings while striking out 33. She finished the week with a 0.28 ERA, while limiting her opponents to a miniscule .094 batting average.
The Moab, Utah, native threw two complete game shutouts on the week, including a no-hitter against Dominican (CA). In the series finale, Whipple was once again on point and allowed just one hit while fanning 11 Penguins to give Dixie the four-game sweep.
The Red Storm is currently 35-12 on the year and finished its
PacWest schedule with a record of 24-6.
This marks the second Dixie State student-athlete to earn the national honors, and the third PacWest softball player to garner the award.
On March 3, Dixie State sophomore Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele, UT/Tooele) was named the Player of the Week, while on March 17 Hawai‘i Hilo sophomore hurler Amber Waracka (Kahuluu, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) claimed the national pitcher of the week honors.
