Dominican University of California women's softball team will Swing for a Cause on April 15
SAN RAFAEL, CA - The Dominican University of California
women's softball team will Swing for a Cause on Sunday,
April 15, during a noon doubleheader at Academy of Art
University.
While the two teams will face off on the field, they also will be teaming up to support local causes.
Dominican and Art U will wear special jerseys that will be sold in a silent auction during the doubleheader.
Donations and proceeds from Dominican's jerseys will support the
spinal injury work of Kentfield Rehabilitation and Specialty Center
while proceeds from Art U's jerseys will support the Amber Craig
Memorial Foundation that helps others prevent suicide through
education.
Senior Kellie
Hislop's family, including her aunt Sue Arrouze, have
been fixtures in the stands for the past four seasons cheering on
Hislop and the Lady Penguins.
In November, Arrouze, a firefighter captain for CAL FIRE,
suffered a spinal cord injury on the job. Yet she has still come to
as many games as possible to support the team. Therefore it was a
no-brainer for Head Coach Roni
Sparrey's team to choose a cause that supports those who have
sustained spinal cord injuries in the line of duty.
Donations to the Kentfield Rehabilitation and Speciality Hospital
will go directly toward the purchase of a LifeGait, a walking
device that simultaneously controls a person’s body weight,
posture and balance over a treadmill or in open spaces.
The LifeGait will assist spinal cord patients to achieve a
standing position while providing a safe environment for them to
begin standing and walking training with their therapists.
"It's important for families to know that your loved one is
receiving the best possible care during their
recovery," Hislop said. "This machine will go a long way in
helping people in the recovery process."

The doubleheader will be played at Mission Blue Field in Brisbane.
First pitch is at noon.
