11 PacWest players earn 2011 Daktronics, Inc. NCAA Division II All-West Region accolades
PHOENIX, AZ – Eleven Pacific West Conference
players have been selected to the 2011 Daktronics, Inc. NCAA Division II All-West Region
Softball Team.
Grand Canyon rookie 2B Claire Zampini (Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley) and senior OF Teddy Barry (Phoenix, AZ/Greenway), Dixie State sophomore 1B Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley), Hawai‘i Pacific junior DP Maile Kim (Salinas, CA/Notre Dame) and Hawai‘i Hilo junior OF Bryanna Hardy (Simi Valley, CA/Grace Brethren) have been named to the First Team.
First Team selections are placed on the national ballot with the All-America Team announced on Wednesday, May 25 – the day before the 2011 NCAA Division II Softball Championship begins in Salem, VA.
Grand Canyon senior utility player Montana Lucas (Glendale, AZ/Cactus) and senior 1B Michelle Rasmussen (Puyallup, WA / Emerald Ridge),Hawai‘i Hilo junior pitcher Amber Waracka (Kaneohe, HI/Kamehameha), Hawai‘i Pacific junior hurler Breanne Patton (Ewa Beach HI/Campbell), Dixie State sophomore OF Jaelle Judkins (St. George, UT/Dixie), and NDNU junior 3B Robyn Araujo (Campbell, CA/Westmont) earned a place on the Second Team.
The sports information directors of the West Region selected the
members of the 2011 Daktronics, Inc. NCAA Division II All-West
Region Softball Team.
Cue, the PacWest Player of the Year and an All-PacWest First Team selection, led the PacWest in hitting (.437), runs batted in (53), and in slugging (.817). She ranked ninth in on-base percentage (.462), tied for 10th in base hits (55), and is second in home runs (12) and total bases (103). She is tied for eighth in doubles (10).
Judkins has had a terrific campaign for the Red Storm. She hit .363 with 38 runs scored, 22 RBI and 21 stolen bases. She finished the year 11th in hitting, and runs scored, sixth in base hits (58) and second in thefts.
As the PacWest Pitcher of the Year and First Team selection, Patton finished second in the conference in ERA (1.49), first in opponent’s batting average (.206), second in strikeouts (125), and first in wins (23), shutouts (11), innings pitched (174) and complete games (23). She finished the year with a 23-4 record.
Kim earned her third straight All-PacWest First Team
selection as a designated player this year. The 2009 Newcomer and
Freshman of the Year finished the season sixth in hitting (.387) in
the conference, while she was eighth in slugging (.574),
10th in on-base percentage (.461), fifth in hits (60)
and tied for third in RBI (46).
Araujo, who was All-PacWest First Team, had a phenomenal year in 2011. She finished the season second in the league in hitting (.432), RBI (51), on-base percentage (.510) and slugging (.751), and led the PacWest in home runs (15), base hits (73) and total bases (127). She finished the season fourth in walks 29.
Zampini ended the year with a .414 batting average in 47 starts. She had 70 base hits, 46 runs scored, 12 doubles, three triples, 22 RBI, a .538 slugging mark and a .448 on-base average.
Lucas hit .331 in 41 starts this season for the Antelopes. She totaled 47 base hits, 27 runs scored, 10 doubles, seven homers and 43 RBI to go along with a .549 slugging rate.
Barry batted .388 in 47 starts. She had 57 base
hits, 39 runs, 10 doubles and eight home runs. She posted a .633
slugging percentage and a .471 on-base mark, while she also stole
22 bases. Rasmussen batted .371 with 17
RBI and 14 runs scored.
Waracka, who was named First Team as the flex player and Second Team as a pitcher in the PacWest, finished the season with a 14-6 overall record and a 1.85 earned run average. She also amassed 80 strikeouts, seven shutouts and 12 complete games in 24 appearances and 21 starts over 125.0 innings of action.
Hardy hit.369 in 42 starts with 45 base hits, 20 runs, 13 RBI, 23 walks and a .480 on-base mark.
