Hawai‘i Pacific, Dixie St., UHH remain in NCAA II West Region Poll; HPU ranked 15th in nation

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – With selection Sunday just over a week away for the NCAA Division II Softball Tournament, reigning national champion Hawai‘i Pacific (30-9/29-8 in-region) is ranked second in the West Region Poll.

Dixie State (27-10/27-10) is clinging to the sixth spot, while Hawai‘i Hilo (25-11/25-11) is on the bubble after being ranked ninth.

The Division II women’s softball committee in Indianapolis released the rankings on Wednesday, April 27. The Top 10 teams are listed in each of the eight regions. The regional rankings are released weekly on Wednesdays through May 4 leading up to the 64-team NCAA II selection show on Sunday, May 8.

HPU is ranked 15th in all of Division II in the weekly National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll, while Dixie State is receiving votes.

The Red Storm’s season is complete, but HPU and UHH have a huge battle scheduled for Saturday in Kaneohe, HI. A split would leave Dixie State with the PacWest title outright and the automatic qualifier, while an HPU sweep would give the Sea Warriors a share of the title and the AQ because of their 3-1 record this season vs. the Red Storm.

The Vulcans, meanwhile, need to win all four games this weekend to claim a share of the PacWest Championship. Four wins also would give Hawai‘i Hilo a berth in the NCAA II Tournament because UHH would earn the automatic qualifier in a tiebreaker situation with Dixie State. The Red Storm would be 1-3 vs. third-place HPU while the Vulcans would be 3-1.
