HPU hosts Regional May 13-15; Dixie St., CSU San Bernardino, Sonoma St. head to islands
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – As the second seed in the NCAA II West Region, defending National Champion
Hawai‘i Pacific (37-10) will host
one of two four-team regional tournaments beginning
Friday, May 13, in Kaneohe,
HI.
Joining HPU will be PacWest Co-Champion Dixie State (33-12), the sixth seed in the region.
The tournament gets underway at Noon HT when the Sea Warriors battle seventh-seed Cal State San Bernardino (32-22) in the opening round on Howard A. Okita Field. HPU defeated the Coyotes 8-6 on April 2.
In fact, Hawai‘i Pacific owns a 5-1 record vs. the other three teams in the regional. The Sea Warriors defeated Sonoma State 3-1 on April 2 and claimed three out of four games from Dixie State in conference action this year.
Dixie State will battle Sonoma State – the third seed – on May 13 at 2:30 p.m. The winners will meet on Saturday, May 14 at 11 a.m., while the losers will tangle in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m. A second elimination game will follow at 4 p.m. with the championship round scheduled for Sunday, May 15, beginning at Noon.
The Red Storm has a 1-4 record vs. the teams in the regional. Dixie State lost 7-0 vs. Sonoma State on April 2 and dropped three of four games to the Sea Warriors.
The NCAA Division II Softball Committee selected the 64-team field on Monday, May 9. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments. Regional competition will be held May 13-15.
Winners will advance to the super regionals May 20-21. The finals will be held May 26-30 at James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va., and will be hosted by the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the city of Salem.
