GCU's Kaycee Gametz, HPU's Breanne Patton named PacWest Player, Pitcher of Week

Breanne Patton PHOENIX, AZ – Grand Canyon junior SS Kaycee Gametz and Hawai‘i Pacific junior hurler Breanne Patton have been named the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

The PacWest announced the awards for Feb. 7 from its office in Phoenix, AZ, for games contested Feb. 1-6.

(Feb. 7, 2011) - Player of the Week (Feb. 1-6)...Kaycee Gamez - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-7, SS, L/R, Eugene, OR/Sheldon) - led Antelopes to a 3-3 week...hit .500 in six starts, going 9 for 18 with five runs, three doubles, a triple, a homer and 10 RBI...posted a .944 slugging rate and a .474 on-base mark...hit a sacrifice fly.

(Feb. 7, 2011) - Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 1-6)...Breanne Patton - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-7, P/1B, R/R, Ewa Beach, HI/Campbell) - posted a 2-0 mark in two starts...registered a 0.50 earned run average, two complete games, one shutout and 10 strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work...allowed just seven hits, one earned run and one walk...opponents hit .140 and managed one extra-base hit - a double...shut out nationally-ranked Division II opponent Rollins (FL) 1-0 on Feb. 5...earned 7-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus (MN) on Feb. 3...hit .500 in four starts...was 5 for 10 with three runs scored, one double, two RBI, three walks and a .600 slugging rate...also had a .615 on-base mark.

PacWest Softball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Tajia Acierto Tajia Acierto - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 5-2, OF/P, R/R, Kapolei, HI/Kapolei)...led the Sea Warriors to a 3-1 week by hitting .500 in three games and two starts...was 3 for 6 with six RBI, a run scored, one double, one walk and a sacrifice bunt...posted a .667 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base rate.

Teddy Barry - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-7, OF L/R, Glendale, AZ/Greenway)...hit .375 in six starts for the Antelopes during the opening weekend of the season...helped GCU begin the year 3-3...was 6 for 16 with seven runs scored, four RBI, two homers and a pair of doubles...posted an .875 slugging rate and a .500 on-base mark...also had three walks, three stolen bases and was hit by a pitch.

Ivy Campas - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-2, P, R/R, Tucson, AZ/Sunnyside)...registered a 2-1 mark in three starts and four appearances to begin the year...recorded a 2.27 ERA in 24.2 innings of work...struck out 23 while allowing eight earned runs on 22 hits...hit .429 in the four games, going 3 for 7 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Allissa Castro - NDNU (Fr., 5-6, SS, L/R, Gilroy, CA/Gilroy)...despite an 0-6 start for the Argos, hit .435 with two runs, two doubles, one home run and four RBI...stole two bases and posted a .417 on-base mark...was 10 for 23 at the plate...recorded a .652 slugging average.

Ivy Campas Sierrah Garcia - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-7, P, L/R, Los Banos, CA/Los Banos)...recorded a 2-0 week on the mound with wins over Cal St. East Bay and Cal St. Stanisluas...had a 1.75 ERA in three appearances and one start...tossed one complete game...struck out 11 in 16.0 innings of work...opponents batted just .154.

Julie Martin - Academy of Art (So., 5-5, OF, L/R, Torrance, CA/South High)...batted .571 in three starts for the Urban Knights...went 4 for 7 with a run scored, one RBI, two walks and one stolen base...had a .571 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base mark.

Michelle Rasmussen - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-6, 1B, L/L, Puyallup, WA/Emerald Ridge)...helped the Antelopes begin the year 3-3 by batting .583 in six starts...was 7 for 12 with three runs, one homer, six RBI, two walks, two HBP and a sacrifice fly...posted an .833 slugging rate and a .647 on-base mark.

Kozy Toriano - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 5-6, U, R/R, Hilo, HI/Kamehamha-Big Island)...led the Sea Warriors to a 3-1 week to start the year by hitting .615 in four starts...was 8 for 13 with six runs scored, seven RBI, two doubles and a home run...walked three times and was 3 for 3 in stolen base attempts...hit a sacrifice fly...posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .647 on-base mark...also had a sacrifice bunt.

Skye Virtudes - Chaminade (Jr., 6-1, C, S/R, Mililani, HI/Mililani)...batted .750 in twinbill sweep of Gustavus Adolphus on Feb. 2...was 3 for 4 with four runs, double, two RBI, three walks and a 1.000 slugging rate...had an .857 on-base mark.

Claire Zampini - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-6, OF, L/R, Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley)...helped the Antelopes begin the year 3-3 by hitting .409 in six starts...was 9 for 22 with six runs scored, two doubles, two walks, two stolen bases, one sacrifice fly and three RBI...had a .500 slugging average and a .440 on-base mark.
