Hawai‘i Pacific juniors Maile Kim, Melissa Kirby named PacWest Player, Pitcher of the Week
PHOENIX, AZ – Hawai‘i Pacific juniors
Maile Kim and Melissa
Kirby have been named the Pacific West Conference
Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
The PacWest announced the awards from its office in Phoenix, AZ, on Feb. 28 for games contested Feb. 21-27.
(Feb. 28,
2011) - Player of the Week (Feb.
21-27)...Maile Kim - Hawai‘i
Pacific (Jr., 5-4, U, R/R, Salinas, CA/Notre
Dame)...led the Sea Warriors to a 4-0 week by hitting
.571 in four starts...was 6 for 11 with five runs scored, a double,
six RBI and two home runs...had three walks and a .667 on-base
average...posted 
a 1.182 slugging rate.
(Feb. 28, 2011) - Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 21-27)...Melissa Kirby - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-6, P, L/R, Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson)...posted a 2-0 mark in two starts during the week...earned a 6-0 victory over Chaminade on Feb. 21 in a non-conference contest, allowing four hits over 6.0 innings of work...pitched a two-hit shutout at Chaminade on Feb. 27 in a 5-0 PacWest Conference opening-day victory...for the week recorded a 0.00 ERA over 13.0 innings of action with two strikeouts, one walk and six base hits.

Nicole Alconcel - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 5-5, IF/P, R/R,
Kahului, HI/HP Baldwin)...hit .500 in doubleheader
spilt vs. Grand Canyon on Feb. 27...went 3 for 6 with two runs
scored, two RBI and a double...stole two bases and recorded a
sacrifice bunt...had a .667 slugging mark and a .500 on-base
average.
Robin Araujo - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 5-7, IF R/R, Campbell, CA/Westmont)...led the Argos to a sweep of Cal State Stanislaus on Feb. 23...hit .571 in the twinbill (4 for 7) with three runs scored, two homers and six RBI...had a 1.429 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base rate.
Teddy Barry - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-7, OF L/R, Glendale, AZ/Greenway)...hit .571 in doubleheader split at Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 27...was 4 for 7 with two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base...had a .571 slugging mark and a .500 on-base average as well.
Katie Brooks - Academy of Art (Fr., 5-10, P, R/R, Grover Beach, CA/Arroyo Grande)...earned a complete-game victory in 2-1 win vs. Cal State Monterey Bay on Feb. 23...allowed just one earned run in 7.0 innings of action...struck out three and served up just three singles...opponents managed to hit only .125.
Allissa Castro - Notre Dame de Namur (Fr., 5-6, SS, L/R, Gilroy,
CA/Gilroy)...led the Argos to a sweep of Cal State
Stanislaus on Feb. 23...hit .667 in the twinbill (4 for 6) with
three runs scored and two RBI...had an .833 slugging percentage and
a .714 on-base rate...stole a base and walked once.
Gabrielle Hawkins - BYU-Hawaii (Fr., 5-7, P/1B, R/R, Manteca, CA/Sierra)...tossed a complete-game shutout vs. Chaminade on Feb. 24 in a 5-0 BYU-Hawaii victory...scattered five hits and struck out four while walking just two in 7.0 innings...allowed a .179 batting average.
Kirsten Linert - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-2, P, L/R, Phoenix, AZ/Sandra Day O’Connor)...shutout Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 27 by the score of 5-0...tossed a complete game by allowing no runs over 7.0 innings of work...struck out five and permitted just two hits...opponents managed a .087 batting average.
Breanne Patton - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-7, P/1B, R/R, Ewa Beach, HI/Campbell)...shared the PacWest lead in hitting for the week with a .750 average...was 6 for 8 with three runs scored, a double, one RBI and two HBP...dropped a sacrifice bunt as well...posted an .875 slugging mark and an .800 on-base average...also recorded a 2-0 mark on the mound...beat Chaminade twice during the week, including a complete-game victory...struck out 10 in 10 innings while allowing just three earned runs...posted a 2.80 ERA.
Caira Pires - Hawai‘i Pacific (So., 5-4, IF, R/R, Kailua, HI/Kalaheo)...hit .455 in 4-0 week for the Sea Warriors...was 5 for 11 with three runs scored, two doubles and seven RBI in four starts...smashed a grand slam at Chaminade on Feb. 27 in 5-0 HPU victory...walked once and hit a pair of sacrifice flys...had a .909 slugging mark and a .429 on-base rate.
Michelle Rasmussen - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-6, 1B, L/L, Puyallup, WA/Emerald Ridge)...hit .667 in doubleheader split at Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 27...was 4 for 6 with a run and two RBI...had a .667 slugging mark and a .667 on-base average as well.
