HPU's Breanne Patton, Hawai‘i Hilo's Amber Waracka garner latest PacWest weekly honors

Breanne Patton PHOENIX, AZ – Hawai‘i Pacific junior Breanne Patton and Hawai‘i Hilo junior hurler Amber Waracka have been named the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

The PacWest announced the awards on March 28 from its office in Phoenix, AZ, for games contested March 21-27.

(April 4, 2011) - Player of the Week (March 28 - April 3)...Breanne Patton - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-7, P/1B, R/R, Ewa Beach, HI/Campbell)...named MVP of the Tournament of Champions and to the All-Tournament Team...led HPU to Gold Bracket Championship...hit .304 for the week in 10 starts, going 7 for 23 with 10 runs, two doubles, one triple, a homer and six RBI...walked 10 times, was hit by a pitch and stole a base...had a .609 slugging rate and a .529 on-base mark...registered a 5-1 record on the mound with a 2.10 ERA in six starts...tossed six complete games and one shutout...struck out 24 in 40 innings of work...opponents hit .216.

Amber Waracka (April 4, 2011) - Pitcher of the Week (March 28 - April 3)...Amber Waracka - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 5-8, P, R/R, Kaneohe, HI/Kamehameha)...led the Vulcans to Bronze Bracket Championship at Tournament of Champions...posted a 6-1 record with a 1.94 ERA in nine appearances...tossed five complete games in seven starts...recorded two shutouts...struck out 33 batters in 47 innings of action.

PacWest Softball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Elyse Cordova Elyse Cordova - Academy of Art (Fr., 5-3, OF, L/R, Tulare, CA/Tulare Union)...hit .588 in helping the Urban Knights to a 4-0 week...went 10 for 17 with eight runs, two doubles and eight RBI...was 4 for 4 in stolen base attempts...recorded a .706 slugging rate and a .588 on-base average.

Bryanna Hardy - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 5-4, C/OF, L/L, Simi Valley, CA/Grace Brethren)...led Vulcans to a 10-2 week and a Bronze Bracket Championship at the Tournament of Champions...hit .425 in 12 starts during road trip to California...went 17 for 40 with six runs, one double, five RBI and four walks...had a sacrifice bunt and a steal...posted a .450 slugging rate and a .477 on-base average.

Ashley McFarland - Dixie State (Sr., 5-10, SS, R/R, Layton, UT/Layton)...hit .375 in eight starts...went 9 for 24 with eight runs scored and seven RBI...doubled twice and belted two homer...walked four times and stole a base...had a .464 on-base average and a .708 slugging mark.

Kanani Numata - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-2, OF, R/R, Pearl City, HI/Pearl City)...helped UHH to 10-2 week and Bronze Bracket Championship at the Tournament of Champions...hit .333 in 12 starts...went 13 for 39 with 10 runs scored, three doubles, one triple and four RBI...walked seven times and had a sacrifice bunt...stole a base...posted a .462 slugging rate and a .447 on-base average.

Christina Pedroza Mary Ortega - Notre Dame de Namur (So., 5-7, P/IF, R/R, San Jose, CA/Piedmont Hills)...helped Argos to 3-5 week by hitting .440 (11 for 25) in eight starts...scored four runs, drove in three and doubled twice...walked once...posted a .520 slugging rate and a .462 on-base mark.

Christina Pedroza - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-6, P/DP, R/R, La Mirada, CA/La Mirada)...led UHH to a 10-2 week and Bronze Bracket Championship at Tournament of Champions...posted 4-1 record with 1.63 ERA in six appearances and four starts...tossed three complete games, including a shutout...allowed eight earned runs in 34.1 innings...struck out 16...opponents hit .189.

Caira Pires - Hawai‘i Pacific (So., 5-4, IF, R/R, Kailua, HI/Kalaheo)...helped lead the Sea Warriors to an 8-3 week and the Tournament of Champions title...hit .333 in 11 starts (13 for 39) with 12 runs, three doubles and trio of homers...had seven RBI...posted a .641 slugging rate and a .350 on-base average...walked once and stole a base.

Jayme Stewart - Academy of Art (So., 5-10, C, R/R, Shingle Springs, CA/Ponderosa)...led Urban Knights to a 4-0 week by hitting .467...went 7 for 15 with five runs scored, two doubles, two homers, seven RBI, one walk and two stolen bases...had a 1.000 slugging rate and a .500 on-base mark.

Lauren Stover - Academy of Art (Fr., 5-4, IF, R/R, Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde)...helped Art U to 4-0 week by batting .500 with seven runs, one double and seven RBI...was 8 for 16...walked once...had .563 slugging rate and .529 on-base mark.

Tessa Truong - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-4, OF, S/L, Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills)...helped UHH to 10-2 week and Bronze Bracket Championship at Tournament of Champions...named to All-Tournament Team...hit .324 in 12 games and 11 starts during week...went 11 for 34 with 11 runs, one double, four RBI and six walks...had three sacrifice bunts and was 6 for 6 in stolen base attempts...posted a .353 slugging rate and a .425 on-base average.
