Dominique Bocanegra will receive prestigious Chaminade University Founders Award
HONOLULU - A well-deserved award will be presented to an integral member of both Chaminade Athletics and the greater Chaminade community.
Dominique Bocanegra (Brisbane, CA/Terra Nova), a senior member of the Chaminade University softball team who served as the 2012-13 CUH Student Athlete Advisory Council president, is the winner of the Chaminade University Founders' Award.
The Founders' Award will be presented on Monday, Feb. 11, at 12:30 p.m. at the Mystical Rose on the Chaminade University campus. The honor is one of three that will be presented, including the Chaminade Award and the Marianist Award.
Bocanegra, graduating this spring with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a minor in business, also is a staff member for the Awakening Retreat organized through Campus Ministry at Chaminade.
The California native also has been an athlete at Chaminade all four years, competing on the women's soccer team her freshman and sophomore years while playing softball in both her junior and senior years.
"It's an honor to receive the Founders' Award," Bocanegra said. "Chaminade bases our education on the Marianist Values and to receive this award really is a blessing. What we are taught in class is ultimately what I want to bring to the world. Being a part of athletics at the collegiate level has given me the opportunity to be a role model for the community around us."
Bocanegra continues her senior year both on the softball field and as president of SAAC for Chaminade University.
Check out Bocanegra and the rest of her teammates in action as the Silverswords play their home opener on Friday, Feb. 15, against Simon Fraser in a doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m. HAST. The games will take place in Waipio at Central Oahu Regional Park.
