GCU's Stephanie Pesqueira selected first PacWest Softball Pitcher of the Week for 2013

Stephanie Pesqueira PHOENIX, Ariz. – Grand Canyon junior hurler Stephanie Pesqueira (Tempe, AZ/Tempe) has been selected the first Pacific West Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for 2013.

The conference announced the honor on Thursday, Feb. 21, for games contested Feb. 1-3 - the opening weekend of the season.

Pesqueira registered a 2-0 mark with one save in three appearances that included two starts and two complete-game victories.

She tossed one shutout and posted a 0.56 earned run average after allowing just one earned run over 16.0 innings of work.

Opponents hit .182 against the Antelope hurler, and she struck out 13 batters while yielding just 10 base hits and six walks.

Kayla Henry Colleen Aubrey (So., 5-6, OF, L/R, Sunnyvale, CA/Homestead) – Hawai‘i Hilo – helped Vulcans to a 3-3 week by batting .412 in six starts…went 7 for 17 with four runs, two doubles and two RBI…also had a walk, stolen base and was hit by a pitch…recorded a .529 slugging mark and a .474 on-base rate.

Jac Harkey (Sr., 5-3, C, C, R/R, Grand Terrace, CA/Redlands) – Azusa Pacific – hit .667 in three appearances with two starts during a 1-2 weekend for the Cougars…went 4 for 6 with a double and a walk…had an .833 slugging mark and a .714 on-base rate during the week.

Karly Harris (Jr., 5-5, P, R/R, Grass Valley, CA/Nevada Union) – Dominican – led Penguins to a 2-0 week by posting a 2-0 mark on the mound…started three games and saw action in all four…tossed one complete-game shutout…registered a 2.08 ERA in 17.1 innings of action…struck out six and permitted just two walks and four earned runs.

Kayla Henry (So., 5-5, OF, L/L, Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro) – Grand Canyon – hit .450 in six starts for the Antelopes during a 5-1 week…was 9 for 20 with three runs, a double, a triple and a trio of RBI…walked twice and stole a base…posted a .600 slugging rate and a .500 on-base mark (left photo).

Heather Koch (Sr., 5-6, OF, R/R, Anaheim, CA/Canyon) – Azusa Pacific – hit .556 in three starts during a 1-2 weekend for the Cougars…was 5 for 9 with a run, double, four RBI and two walks…posted a .667 slugging rate and a .636 on-base mark.

Rebecca Lee (Jr., 5-6, C/UT, L/R, Kapolei, HI/Mililani) – Hawai‘i Hilo – helped Vulcans to a 3-3 week by batting .500 in six starts…went 8 for 16 with four runs, a double, a home run and three RBI…also had three walks, reached twice after getting hit, and stole a base…had a .750 slugging rate and a .619 on-base average.

Haily MacDonald Haily MacDonald (So., 5-5, P/OF, L/R, Santa Rosa, CA/Ursuline) – Academy of Art – hit .333 in two starts despite a 0-2 weekend for the Urban Knights…was 2 for 6 with a run, a double and a .500 slugging rate (right photo).

Alexis Moctezuma (Jr., 5-3, OF, Montebello, CA/Hesperia) – Holy Names – batted .308 in five starts for the Hawks…HNU posted a 0-5 record…went 4 for 13 with three runs, a double, two homers and an .846 slugging mark…drove in three runs and registered a .308 on-base rate.

Cindy Palameres (Fr., 5-2, IF, R/R, Sacramento, CA/McClatchey) – Holy Names – batted .500 in three games and two starts for the Hawks…HNU went 0-5 during the opening weekend…went 3 for 6 with two runs, a double, a home run and three RBI…also walked and recorded a 1.167 slugging percentage…turned in a .571 on-base rate.

Dominique Perry (Jr., 5-7, C/3B, R/R, Galt, CA/Galt) – Dominican – helped Penguins to a 2-2 weekend by hitting .412 in four games and three starts…went 3 for 9 with a double, two RBI and a walk…had a .444 slugging mark and a .400 on-base rate.

Lauren Regester (So., 5-8, 1B/3B, R/R, Chandler, AZ/Basha) – Grand Canyon – helped push Antelopes to a 5-1 week by hitting .300 in six starts…went 6 for 20 with a double and three RBI.

Vanessa Salinas (Jr., 5-4, P, R/R, Madera, CA/Madera) – Hawai‘i Hilo – helped Vulcans to a 3-3 week by posting a 2-1 mark on the mound…registered a 1.71 ERA in three starts while tossing three complete games, including one shutout…struck out 13 and scattered 13 hits over 21.0 innings of work…allowed four earned runs and three walks…opponents hit just .169.

Stephanie Smith (Jr., 5-4, 3B, S/R, Phoenix, AZ/Sandra Day O’Connor) – Grand Canyon – helped Antelopes to a 5-1 week by hitting .500 in six starts…went 7 for 18 with a run, RBI, double and a .571 slugging mark…also posted a .500 on-base rate.

Claire Zampini (Jr., 5-6, OF, L/R, Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley) – Grand Canyon – led Antelopes to a 5-1 week by hitting .556 in six starts…went 10 for 18 with a run and two RBI…posted a .556 slugging rate and a .524 on-base mark…had a pair of sacrifice flys and a sacrifice bunt…also stole a base.
